Malabar is a New York City/Boston based group that plays reggae, afrobeat and psychedelic funk grooves.
Lead Vocalist and Guitarist Rohit Nambisan has had experience for many years playing in reggae and psychedelic rock bands in California and New York City, including an experience opening for and playing onstage with Wyclef Jean. Additionally, Rohit is a PhD candidate in the Cognitive and Neural System program at BU (http://cns.bu.edu/~rohitn).
Bassist Hari Vasu-Devan has had experience playing in funk rock bands in California. He has recently played bass in the original Malabar and jammed out acoustic rock sets with Rohit in New York City. Hari also is a financial analyst.
Drummer and Percussionist Andy O'Neill is a formally trained musician who has played all styles and rhythms of drums throughout most of his life and played in groups such as Sweet Cajun Band. Andy plays jazz, silent film soundtrack and other varied styles of music throughout the New York metropolitan area and around the country. He is also a drum teacher.
Sax Player Rob Miller, Trumpet Player Cameron Washington and Trombonist Jeremy Nesmith have had experience playing together in several successful music projects in New York in varying styles of music. Rob also plays in several other projects. Cam also is a filmmaker. Jeremy also works in an art gallery.
Each performance will be varied and may include accompanying musicians depending on the style of music. Furthermore, the terms “audience interactive musical experience” bests describes this project as Malabar views each performance as a show in which participation from the audience is necessary to create and impart the intensity and flavor of the music. Don't be afraid if you find yourself dancing with a saxophonist!

We worked with an amazing bunch of people on this record including Dave Cooley of Citizen King fame, who also recently produced the latest release from The Silversun Pickups. Also Mike Moor, who's worked with just about every Brit band of the 60s and 70s-including The Rolling Stones! Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon makes an appearence as well.
