Tim Garry, guitarist and vocalist, is an experienced musician who has played in numerous bands. He has studied rock, jazz, and flamenco guitar styles. His vocal experience includes a year in the DVC vocal jazz choir as well as a year and a half working at Maxs Opera Café. He is an incredibly prolific songwriter, having written hundreds of songs in various styles. He also speaks several languages and holds a Master's Degree in International Trade Policy; despite these impediments to rock and roll lifestyle, he pushes on, shooting blistering face melting hot licks at all that stand in his way.
Ivan Ganchev
Originally from Bulgaria, Ivan Ganchev, drummer and vocalist, is an extraordinarily gifted musician. According to legend, as a teenager he sat down at a drum set one day and began playing effortlessly. His unmatched technical prowess on the instrument to this day is rendered even more incredible by the fact that hes never had a lesson! Ivan began singing in the boys choir in Bulgaria, and is a hit on the Bay Area karaoke circuit. In 2005, he appeared on American Idol, and made it all the way to the top 44 (out of thousands of contestants). He also plays drums for Almost Dead.
Nick Mastroianni
Former student of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Nick has been playing bass since he was 12. He is a prolific and creative songwriter and composer, proficient at writing classical, and electronic pieces. In addition to electric and upright bass, Nick plays drums, keyboards, guitar, and sings backup on occasion. He is obsessed with the music of film, video games, and anime, as well as composing odd-meter complex rhythms. He also plays bass in the band Myotonia.
Jan Lubbe
Jan Lubbe spent his youth as a humble Walnut Creek suburbanite. It was in these formative years that he first began listening to music. As time went by he began playing music himself and eventually joined forces with other like-minded individuals of the surrounding communities. From these modest beginnings Jan managed to pull himself up by his bootstraps and rise to greatness as a substitute teacher and guy who plays keyboard for Malavita. He also writes songs, sings, and plays keyboard, guitar, and accordion for The Craftmatic Adjustables. He recommends that you spend money in order to hear these bands play live and to listen to their recordings.
Influences
Slayer, Queen, Mr. Bungle, George Michael, Meshuggah, NES, John Williams, Danny Elfman, Dick Dale.
Sounds Like
80's metal, old jazz, surf, video game music.
Covers by Van Morrison, Alice in Chains, Stray Cats, Slayer, Frank Sinatra, OutKast, Michael Jackson, Prince, Metallica, and many more!!!
MALAVITA hails from the San Francisco Bay Area and features Tim Garry (Banana Hammock, Flab 'r 'Glap), Nick Mastroianni (Banana Hammock, Dr. Smooth), Jan Lubbe (Craftmatic Adjustibles) and Ivan Ganchev (8 Eyes Black, American Idol!). Their music runs the gambit from speed metal to jazz to surf to whatever strikes their fancy. Basically, they're metal guys who sometimes moonlight as jazz muscians, a surf band, a NES Cover band, etc. If you're into face melting leads, pummeling double bass and lyrics about wizards, politics, serial killers and Satan, then you've come to the right place.
They also function as an amazing cover band, which they do for the money, playing everything from George Michael to Nintendo music to Slayer. The songs here are original tunes. If you are interested in acquiring any of our recorded delights, or would like to book us, please contact us.

The jam you guys did New Years Eve was awesome - true showmanship at its finest with the rock 'n roll attitude to keep us all drunk and happy! And that part wasn't even planned...>_>

Okay, silly question...Will you ever play in southern Cali? By the looks of your gig calendar, I'll probably have to take a trip up north to check it out.
Would you guys happen to be free to play a private party at Dan's on Sunday, May 13th? It's crazy in advance, but it is an after wedding party for Heather and Steve? Let me know about schedule, cost, etc if you are interested.
You guys were amazing this past weekend. Enough to make a lazy girl get up and shake it. AHHHHHH yeah. Seriously, get in contact with me. I wanted to ask you about the booking process for a private party. If you guys are too famous by then.
Just wanted to drop by and say hello! I got all the feedback from the Dan's regulars about the show that I missed! They said you guys kicked ass. I said what's fuckin new. Cheers!
