About me:

I began my martial arts training in 1975 at the age of 5 years old. I began studying a system call Tjimande in Uniontown, PA. My family and I moved to Cleveland, Ohio so my parents could find work. I found that Silat and Kuntao was very much alive in Cleveland.

At the age of 18 years old, I began working in the field of security in retail stores, and bar rooms. At 19 years old I started working for the Mc Crory Stores Corp as an Undercover Retail Detective. At 21 years old, I began to working in a Fugitive Task Force (Bounty Hunters), but I continued working in contract security.

I worked as a Corrections Officer for the City of Cleveland where I used his art to control unruly inmates. I also worked for the Geauga County Sheriff's Office in Ohio.

I trained Security, Correction, and Police Officers for many years in defensive tactics and grappling. At 31 years old I did something I always wanted to do by joining the US Army Military Police. I served with honors for almost 3 years. I was my company's Unarmed Self-Defense Instructor (USD), and planned the Advanced USD program for my entire company.

I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from the beginning, and served six months in Iraq. While in Iraq I taught in the first ever Iraqi Police Academy. I was the Academy's Chief USD Instructor in Defensive Police Tactics and Suspect Control Techniques. While in Iraq I taught Pukulan and Kali to many people of the Navy, Marines, and Army. I was honorably discharged from the US Army just after returning home from Iraq, and found a job as a Police Officer in a small town in Kansas.

Today, I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Federal Police Officer. I have used my art in many real life encounters. I'm now teaching Pukulan, Kali and Grappling as one art, the "Malay Fighting Arts". Please contact me for any more info on my art, or any other arts at gurujim@pukulan.net OR Visit my Site at www.pukulan.net.
