    Malc Gurnham's Interests
MusicMy first love is folk music (both traditional and contemporary) but really I am an "any type of music will do me!" sort of person having in previous lives performed in numerous pop, blues and R&B (proper R&B not the "new" sort!) bands as a singer and/or guitarist. Often found breaking into a bit of 60's pop at a late night or early moring sing at folk festivals much to the amusement (or sometimes annoyance!) of those around me.

About me:
I have been involved in folk music for more years than I care to remember, singing (solo and in various duos, trios and groups) playing guitar/bass and other "stringed things" to accompany myself and others. As well as my solo exploits, I play regularly in two well established bands "Glorishears Ceilidh Band" one of the Midlands longest running ceilidh bands, and "The Katherine Fear Band" (Katherine is a singer/songwriter of some acclaim, and we have just released our second album). I am also involved in running a number of folk events including the monthly Bedworth Folk Club www.bedworthfolkclub.co.uk where I am host and resident and the annual (last week-end in November) Bedworth Folk Festival now approaching its 30th year - all of which I have been involved in organising see the web site www.bedworth-festival.info In between all this folk-sing stuff, I also do a bit of web design and maintain a quite large folk(ish) web site www.folkfax.net - and I am currently in the middle of building a small digital/analogue recording studio, which I hope to have up and running in the summer - oh and I also have a day job too!

Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(see my blog for details):
CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY

As gospellers have said,
Beneath signalling skies,
On land dusty to tread,
A trough in a stable
Was the strawy first-bed
Of a divine baby -
The forgiving Godhead.

A season for new hope -
There then and here now;
The yuletide of goodwill -
There then and here now.

In respect of this chance,
Beneath bright or dark skies,
Faith's the star that we glance
Attending Christ's churches
And trying to enhance,
With singing and ritual,
Our God-loving stance.

Hola
Part of the idea is to enable small-scale producers, copyright owners
of digital works (songs,tunes,videos,data) to publish and charge for
downloading. Music and tune wise we have sorted, still working on
video. As well as 'Raremusez Basement' (all tunes free or 55p) the
download area, there is a Members site allowing registered users to
upload mp3 files which can then be published at the basement. Can you
pass on details to whoever you think might be interested. Charges/costs
and how to are available to registered members. The site is built on
the Joomla open source framework so large scope for development and
hosting.
Cheers Coopz new tunes

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.
