Lots of traditional players but really likes John McCusker, Duncan Chisholm, Michael McGoldrick, Kate Rusby, Nic Jones, Flook, Session A9, Julie Fowlis, Sean Keane(singer that is), Tony McManus and the list goes on and on and on............................... Most recently has developed real passion for Swedish traditional music.
Heavily influenced by his parents CD collection as a large part of it has ended up in his room! All that's left are empty cases. Still that's better than empty bottles at his age!
Sounds Like
A fiddle player and pretty reasonable at that too!
Born in Tasmania, Australia with a strong Scottish heritage Malcolm grew up listening to the traditional music of Scotland and Ireland through his parents playing and recordings. At the age of 12 he won his first fiddle competition at Westbury Irish festival. His talent was recognised by many musicians including Scottish guitarist Tony McManus, Irish singer Sean Keane and Irish fiddle player, Liz Doherty. Whilst in Australia he worked with Australia's foremost exponent of the Scottish fiddle, Chris Duncan and in 2003 at the age of 13 toured Scotland with Australia's premier Celtic band "Tantallon" and drew critical acclaim for his mature playing at such a young age. He appeared at numerous festivals in Australia and Tasmania and acted as support act for a number of touring UK artists in Tasmania. In 2005 Malcolm moved to the UK with his parents and in 2006 quickly became part of the tradtional music scene in Newcastle, Northumberland where he quickly established himself as one of the regions finest young fiddle players. Malcolm joined the north-east's young folk ensemble, "Folkestra" early in 2006 and is currently in his last year. In the same year he performed at "festivale interceltique de Lorient" in Brittany, France. In 2007 he was a member of SNAP 07, a music group from the North Pennines, Sweden and Brittany and with them performed at venues across Sweden and France. He has also been part of support acts in the North-East for Scottish based trio LAU and Tony McManus as well as performing a set with Tony. In 2008 he toured Spain with Folkestra and performed with Folkestra in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert hall in front of a sold out audience. Since arriving in the UK Malcolm has worked and studied with Aidan O'Rourke, Shona Mooney, Sophy Ball and is currently studying with Stewart Hardy (ex John Wright Band).

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
well, it has been a long and winding road, and an even longer time coming, but my debut CD, I Remember, is FINALLY HERE!!! YAY!!!!!
to celebrate, American HeartBeat Records(tm) has arranged a FREE DOWNLOAD of Now Is The Time in exchange for a valid email address. Now Is The Time is a brand new, upbeat song I wrote: we are living in turbulent times. suddenly it is okay to be greedy and heartless? no way! a song of hope for our future, a new vision of America and the world.
we have a bunch of exciting things planned to kick this whole thing off, and we need to get a better picture of who our friends are, so the FREE DOWNLOAD form will ask you a few questions, like, what is your country and nearest major city. it all takes maybe 15 seconds.

A Friend is a Treasure A friend is someone we turn to, when our spirits need a lift. A friend is someone we treasure, for our friendship is a gift. A friend is someone who fills our lives, with beauty, joy and grace. And make the world we live in, a better and happier place.
