In my early years, Free, 10 Years After, Fleetwood Mac(Peter Green), Bad Company, Nick Drake, John Martin.
Later, Ry Codder, Warren Zevon, David Lindley, Little Feat (Lowell George), Steve Earl, John Hiatt, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, Del Amitri.
I've played electric guitar in bands for years but mainly in The Ugly Brothers for the last umpteen years. Check us out on the web. But a chance visit to The Green Mandolin in Felling brought out the acoustic side. A big thanks to all those who frequented The Green Mandolin in Felling on musicians nights. Without me finding Kelly Brownell and Pete Dodds hosting a Wednesday night I probably would not have enjoyed playing acoustic music and being inspired to write music again. Not to mention all the good musicians and friends I met there.
Made a lot of friends there and I'm sorry it came to an end but it was good while it lasted.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
There's a new track up on on our myspace page, Casualidad, please feel free to download and enjoy it. Best from Steve & Sabrina in Berlin, first gig on 13th June! x
Thanks for coming last night. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say more than 'Nice T-shirt'. Not sure we really could compete with the pub quiz/raffle-fest! Nice Counting Crows covers on your Ugly Brothers' page.
Hello there and many thanks for the add! Yeah its a shame about the mando, I managed to play the last night though which was lovely. The sound is great mate, all the best! XV
Thanks for linking to my stroppy solo page - hope to see you next week (if I can get my act together next time and read all my e-mails before I leave the house!!)
'This Side of the Morning' is a top song, by the way...
'This Side of the Morning' sounds great, but would sound better coming out of the speakers of a 18-wheeler on a drive across Wyoming...makes me think of that anyway!
Hey the Marvellous Malcolm on myspace!! that's a bit of a mouthful, liking the tunes and thanks for your kind words about the Mando,I'll see you Wednesday : )
