   Malcolm Holt's Blurbs
About me:
'Yorkshire born, adopted Geordie, honorary Texan, and lover of Las Vegas'. I was born in Cottingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire and brought up in Kingston upon Hull, the city that gave birth to some great music. I drank in the same pubs as the Housemartins and the Beautiful South did. I actually used to work with Mick Ronson's uncle. The first band I ever saw live was Jethro Tull at Hull City Hall in 1969, closely followed by The Who performing 'Tommy' in February 1970 when 'technical difficulties' deprived me of being part of musical history. It will always be The Who 'Live At Hull' as far as I am concerned. For those interested in reading more, check out the excellent 'thisisull.com' website. During the academic year 1971-72 I co-edited the student union magazine at a teacher training college near Doncaster. I also played a lot of golf and gave up the idea of becoming a teacher. I moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, another city that gave birth to some great music, during the long hot Summer of '76 and I'm still there. No-one can accuse me of just passing through. I guess I'm an adopted Geordie now with Yorkshire roots. I am also an honorary Texan courtesy of Kinky Friedman, who gave me the honour of becoming his English 'Cousin Malcolm', and San Antonio, Texas will always remain my spiritual second home. There are two 'special' places on this Earth; Rebecca Creek in the Texas Hill Country and the beaches of Northumberland. I wrote many articles for the Newcastle United fanzine 'The Mag' during 1996-2004 and in more recent times I was a Champion Columnist for the local newspaper, the 'Sunday Sun'. I am the author of the Newcastle United football books 'Magpie Memories' (2004) and 'More Magpie Memories' (2005), both published by Breedon Books. My third project, 'Newcastle United - Entertaining the Entertainers' is likely to appear in stages in various literary locations. Speaking of football, in my younger days I could play a bit. I am also the author of the 'lost' crime fiction novel 'In the Nick of Tyne' (1998) written under the pseudonym Chris Malcolm. This introduced the world to the life and times of amateur sleuth and urban cowboy Vincent 'Lonesome' Dove, a legend in his own living room. Sadly, the book disappeared as fast as the publisher. Well, great news for all 'Dove' fans, you know who you are, I am currently embarking on an extreme makeover of the first novel and hopefully it will re-emerge bigger and better and written under my own name. In this novel, now 'Last Dance Saloon', the reluctant hero helps to track down the serial killer dubbed the Walliston Ripper. This will hopefully be the beginning of the Vincent Dove Tales located in the fictional northern town of Walliston. The second novel mixes gambling and murder and will end with a dramatic climax in the casinos of Las Vegas. The third novel sees Dove confronting modern day vampires, ghosts and an ancient curse. Further novels are already works in progress. I hope to see you all at book festivals in the near future.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

Promotional Video(My Girl From The South Sea Isles)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Hi Malcolm- Here in Vegas it's 2PM on Sunday afternoon, and we are at 102 degrees, but it's overcast. In fact the weather has been bad for a week, and we actually experienced a bit of RAIN. So that makes a total of around 3 inches for the year.

BTW, Have you heard the music on my site? I do some composing, and I have some tracks from the past few projects I've done. You seem like such a music fan (I also like R.E.M), I thought I would suggest it. It's in the New Age/Ambient genre.

Talk to you later!
