Chris Rock: "Music kind of sucks. Nobody's into being a musician. Everybody's getting their mogul on. You've been so infiltrated by this corporate mentality that all the time you'd spend getting great songs together, you're busy doing nine other things that have nothing to do with art. You know how shitty Stevie Wonder's songs would have been if he had to run a fuckin' clothing company and a cologne line?"
Highlarious, right?
Welcome to the JAZZ/FUNK/SPOKEN WORD sphere of Miles Long. In a music world of mediocrity, we stand tall and proud amongst fellow artists and musicians who actually have something to say and who enjoy making music for the art.
I have neither a clothing company nor a cologne line. Nor do I even have a record label behind me. Apparently, I'm not looking at this side of my artistry as a business in which I will become rich and famous (besides, someone already jacked the name Gordon Gartrelle as a clothing line). I make music that, first and foremost, I want to hear. I make sincere music. It's what W. Ellington Felton calls The Honest Music Movement. That's what it's all about, baby-sharing your soul.
As a poet and a bass player, I give you my heart. As the writer of this bio section, I could spin words and dazzle you with clever catch phrases to convince you as to why you should listen/buy my music, but why when you can listen and form your own opinion?
Big ups and salutations to all of you who support and have supported my music through the years. Your energy and love is inspiring and reaffirming. I'm proud enough of my art that I can honestly say that even if no one else dug my stuff, I'd still be bangin' it my daggone self. However, I will admit that it IS incredibly gratifying to know that you like it too. Thank you for the love and keeping my soul fed.

We all have the ability to bequeath positive affirmations into the psyches of one another this color mess sickens me to the core of my being and we are not done seeing what the Lord will do if we do not all straighten up and fly right with respect to how we treat one another.
My vote will always be predicated upon what I feel he/she brings to the table. Never will it be cast based upon what the majority feels for I am not a minority, a democratic, or a republican, I am a human being with principals and I am able to make positive strives in this nation. As I run my race please dully note that there will ALWAYS be space for me and you on the race track of life regardless of who does or does not like it.
If one were to truly do their research, they will discover that being a Democrat was at one time deemed to be the elite category hmmm…What happen? The tables were turend and now everyone is yelling Republican. I laugh at that why? Because knowledge is power and the more we know the less like we will assume that we “Blacks” are being made mockery of. Readers, I employ you all to look deep into the picture and you will find the answer that is because it has always been forever present.
This color stuff is all wrapped up in the divide and concur mentality and the whole notion of if I weaken you are them, I can inter elevate myself and us because I won’t be able have this throne on my own therefore I have been forced to include you.
I want to first commend you Malcolm for posting this very strong statement on your site with respect to the article title, “Dear White Women.” Unfortunately, we have a tendency in our society to rally behind what is deemed to be the norm and we have done so for years. Not too many people are willing to stand up, speak, up, and hold up those who are trying to finger this earth successfully.
Truth be told some ethnic brackets probably want to place us (Black, negro. African-Americans” back in chains, whips, the category of the nigga', continue to constantly remove and encourage the black man to not be forever present in the home. As he is constantly discouraged media wise to not assume his headship position. As we know there are many person(s) in the closet and those who are making their identity known who will not be true and honest about how we (blacks) are continuously wrongfully categorized as nothing in relation to-politics, finance. education, home ownership, academic success-elementary, middle, high school, and college, family, and most importnatly, with respect to are overall make up as a whole.
Why shouldnt we line-up to solute the black man? Why are we constantly placing our decision to support or not support solely upon the color of ones skin? Why are we assonating Obama, his wife, and his children before he is even given a fair opportunity to run in a race that we blacks have been trying run in all of our lives? of more than just fourty acres and maybe a mule we are people of substance just like you. Poverty is not-our first, middle, last and or sir name.
We must not vote for anyone just because of their color we must vote for based upon the character of the person. I am of the strong opinion that we should have all been born legally bind that way we would have been able to refrain from misjudging and brutally dehumanizing one another simply because were Black, your White, their Asian, their Hispanic, their Middle Eastern etc.

Happy 4th!!! I just watched Fool's Gold (again). Do you have any pics from the set of that movie? I haven't checked yet if you do...any with Kate Hudson would be nice. :)
he can sing, but most of his stuff comes across as lounge-singer-esque. Even his version of "If you don't know me by now" sounds like it had somewhat of a soul-ectomy.
in fact FGTH was prob more soulful
so we have:
Bobby Caldwell Daryl Hall (of Hall and Oates) George Michaels *we would include Eminem if rappers were in it* *i don't know about Timberlake, Jon B and Robin Thicke*
