Honored to sing for President Obama

About Malia...

In her young life, Malia Civetz, already has quite a resume, from wowing the audience at the legendary Apollo Theater as a featured ‘Star of Tomorrow’ when she was 13 to singing the National Anthem for President Barack Obama to performing with Barry Manilow in his show at Paris Las Vegas as the winner of his ‘15 Minutes of FAME’ contest! Malia has sung for millions of people at countless professional sporting and special events and starred in 2011, with rave reviews, in the lead role of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray and as Adelaide in Guys and Dolls in 2012. Malia graduated in June from the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts as a Theatre Major and straight ‘A’ honor student. She was awarded a number of scholarships including a Manilow Endowed Music Scholarship at the University of Southern California where she was accepted into the prestigious Thornton School of Music's Popular Music Program. She began her life at USC singing for the New Student Convocation in late August. She sings, dances, acts, plays piano and has for years contributed her time and talent to an array of charities. As Robin Leach said “Critics and fans predict a big career for the talented teenager.” Malia takes her training seriously and has an impressive list of accomplishments to show for it. She’s a three-time winner of the Las Vegas Search for Talent, has been featured on Oprah's website in the Search for the World's Smartest and Most Talented Kids, is a winner of Henderson's Got Talent in both the Middle School and High School Divisions and won Miller Middle School’s ‘Miller Idol’. She received a Gateway Arts Foundation Scholarship in 2010 and in 2011 attended USC's Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory on a USC scholarship. Although just a teenager, she’s already had the privilege of performing at jazz festivals and amazing venues including the Apollo Theater, House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, Universal Studios CityWalk, Mandalay Bay Resort, Cosmopolitan Resort, Mandarin Oriental, Aria Resort, Paris Las Vegas Resort, Southpoint Showroom, Suncoast Showroom, Sam's Town LIVE, Chrome Showroom, on the Dennis Bono Show and the list goes on. For many years she has sung the National Anthem and God Bless America in high profile venues like Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, AT&T Park for the SF Giants, Staples Center for the Lakers, Honda Center for NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, Jobing.com Arena for NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, for the USA Sevens International Rugby Championship, NBA Summer League and at Hollywood Park and Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Malia can be heard singing for major crowds around Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Orleans Arena, Thomas & Mack, Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas Marathon, Silverman Triathlon and the Fremont Street Experience. She has supported local teams for many years singing for UNLV events, the Las Vegas Wranglers and the Las Vegas 51's. Rising stars steal David Foster’s show at Mandalay Bay by Robin Leach

VEGAS DELUXE by ROBIN LEACH...
"He found three ladies who overpowered the arena. First there was a 17-year-old who got his attention and her 10 seconds. Except the teen, Malia Civetz, was so incredible that he let her sing the entire song she’d chosen. You could see the crowd mouthing the words of “A Star Is Born,” and we were watching it at the speed of live right in front of us." "David summed it up best: “Holy crap! This has been amazing. Why am I bringing out these superstars onstage when we have them in the audience? Wow, what a night. We experienced a once-in-a-lifetime musical miracle. After tonight, it makes me want to do a show just with whom I find in the audience. “I’ve worked with every giant in the record business, and just when you think you’ve already heard everything, even I was blown away. The night belonged to five unknowns who stole my show. I couldn’t be happier!” Click here for full article by Robin Leach: http://www.vegasdeluxe.com/blogs/luxe-life/2011/nov/26/exclusive-photos-rising-stars-steal-david-fosters-/

Hairspray ~ ABC's Morning Blend

Malia "steals your heart" as Tracy...

"If Shaiman's music and lyrics are Hairspray's engine and fuel, Civetz's Tracy is the sparkplug. Dancing with verve and singing with oomph, she exudes an ingenuous gee-whiz quality that steals your heart ... as does her adenoidal speaking voice. Tracy's prison solo is a clever send-up of every "inspirational" Andrew Lloyd Webber power anthem, and Civetz excels both there and in her soulful "You Can't Stop the Beat" solos. With her indefatigable optimism, this Tracy really is unstoppable." CityLife Article by DAVID MCKEE... http://www.lasvegascitylife.com/articles/2011/02/17/ae/stage/iq_42237723.txt
