French Funk band founded in 1988 in Paris.
Following the successful parties they organized at « Chez Roger Boite Funk » with DJ Dee Nasty and Loik Dury, Joseph Guigui and Laurent « Isaac » Cohen (respectively guitar and trombone players in the Human Spirit band) decided to launch a project of French styled Funk. Accompanied by François Bercovici (lead vocals), Stephane Malca (keyboards), Anne « Elka » Possompes (lead vocals), Dany'O Thomasi (bass), Seb Dupouey (drums), Woody Braun (saxophone), Gilles Garin (trumpet) and Xeus (keyboards), the band soon became one of the most sensational scenic performance of the 90's.
Their first self-financed LP « Malka On the Beach » was released in 1991 and they started touring everywhere in France. The live gigs, that were literally dressed-up performances, were always sold out and regularly followed by a « Discomobile » in order to party all night long. Rico Adiko Kerridge (guitar) and Yvan Tamayo (percussions) then joined the band and in 1992 they get a record deal with Warner France for their second album «Tous Des Oufs», a genuine P-Funk space-opera.
After touring all over France, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands and Japan, the band switched back to an independent record label with Big Cheese Records (Fricassee de Funk EP). Two backing vocals , Gilda Peters and « Beyonder » join the band, quickly followed by the amazing Jay « Funkmaster Jizzle » Murphy (keyboards).
Finally, victimized by logistic over sizing (at the time of the last world tour, the band counted 14 members!), Malka Family disbanded in 1997 soon after the release of their last album «Fotoukonkass».
