Influences
lots of bands...
we love our friends here in omaha and have been influenced by them mostly.
but in us we have a little my bloody valentine, sunny day real estate, idlewild cursive, jimmy eat world, simon and the garfunkel, wilco, ryan adams, bob dylan, the beatles, the kinks, the postal service, death cab, modest mouse, the cure, little brazil, david bowie, nick drake, elliot smith, jeff buckley, the flaming lips, bright eyes, joy division... you know what? this is silly... you have ears...
Sounds Like
If J. Mascis was the guitarist for Simon and Garfunkel...only Garfunkel is dead and has been replaced with Elliot Smith... then everything gets sprinkled with Jimmy Eat World and some Wilco....bake 30 minutes .... Presto! Malpais.
Malpais - formed in 2007 by Greg Loftis once he got back to Omaha from his travels around the globe. His zest for exploring brought him to a small beach in Central America that inspired the ironic name. He returned to his midwestern home and began singing with long-time friend/partner in crime, Joshua Hendricksen. They put together a band with Dave & Luke Backhaus, Phil Reno, Scott Evans - and got right to work. In the short life of the group (about six months) they have played around with Cursive, Blue October, Say Anything, The Narrator, Little Brazil, and Ludo to name a few. The style ranges from indie rock to shoe gazer/dream pop - to straight R.E.M style arena alt. rock. Interesting and original, the band is very much at home in front of huge crowds and intimate settings alike. Their debut album was recorded at ARC studios(Connor Oberst and Mike Mogis's) in Omaha with recording guru A.J. Mogis. Look for it early spring 2008.

hey Greg, get those shows this weekend listed up on here! How was the rest of NYC time? If I would have thought about it sooner, I could have flown out to NE this weekend to catch the shows. I keep forgetting I can leave and do things on the weekends instead of staying here and beach bummin' it out here on the north coast.
sorry about that I must have passed you the wrong one.
That's funny because I tried that one a while ago too, the one I gave you, and it made me all crazy because they sucked real bad, and they didn't pay too good either they offered like free samples and stuff instead of cash.
But anyways, the correct site is
W A V E 5 0 0 . COM
it's the one I am cashing $550 a week with putting in about 22 hours a week, sometimes up to like 30 hours if I'm day dreaming.
After you get your membership make sure you sign up with with the companies on page one in the members section because they are the ones that pay pay top dollars, I got $50 for one that took me 50 minutes today. You'll see what I'm rambling about when you start up.
Brit started taking them too and she's making $700 a week, it's making me so mad because I'm the one that showed her which one to sign up with now she's making more than me.
Alright well me and Jake are getting ready to leave now, just give me a call or I'll meet you on here and let me know if you have any problems with your membership. catcha later
I haven't had much luck asking bands to jump on the show next week, but a lot of people say they're coming to the show to check you out. I'll make up some fliers and hand them out at the show I'm going to tonight.
:) i read your article in city weekly today at the laundrymat. ( i know its laundromat but my way is more fun.) wish i could go. but alas i will be drunkenly playing slot machines and watching gay muscular men take their clothes off.
