MAMA (Chris Bauer) - Multi-instrumentalist and composer.
In addition to creating my own music, I am a current member of the following bands:
THE PERPETRATORS (Wpg, MB; Rock / Blues) - Drums / Vocals...See the band's MYSPACE listing for more info, and
AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP (Wpg, MB; Garage Rock) - Drums / Vocals / occasional guitar and the principal music writer in the band. I also produced the band's first record FINGERTIGHT.
I have also been a member of Stagmummer, Woodcock, Swivel, Backwater, the VaGiants, the Mistakes and the Turnstiles. Other folks I've played with include Romi Mayes, Jaxon Haldane (of the D. Rangers), Pat Keenan, the Squareheads, the Supersuckers (1 night in Regina when their drummer was held up at the border), and Shrimp. I also get together with some jazzers I met in a course I took with musician / instructor Janice Finlay from time-to-time to play some...you guessed it...jazz.
Influences
A love of music, and an interest in not being bored.
Sounds Like
My own music is influenced a lot by The Residents, Sun Ra, Henry Threadgill, George Russell, Can, the Velvet Underground, Ornette Coleman, the Butthole Surfers, King Crimson / Robert Fripp, Pere Ubu and John Zorn. AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP sounds something like the Dirtbombs, QOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal and the Bellrays...with a smidge of the Jesus Lizard and Black Flag. The PERPETRATORS lean in the JSBX / Fat Possum direction of blues rock, heavily rooted in the music of Hound Dog Taylor. We've been referred to as "blues adventurers", "punk blues" and "blues for people who hate the blues"...
I've been playing music since I was 12, focusing on drums / percussion but tinkering around with other instruments and methods of creating music. I have been recording my own music since 1994, and have contributed tracks and sound effects to a number of locally produced independent films. I have played in a wide variety of musical styles / genres.
First major band was Stagmummer (1993-2001), who got the opportunity to record with a couple of well known engineer / producers (Steve Albini and GGGARTH). Stagmummer released 2 Cd's, and the music was a cross between the Jesus Lizard, Black Flag, the Birthday Party and Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. In 2001, shortly after Stagmummer disbanded, I joined the VaGiants and we recorded 2 Cd's, got a small US distribution deal and did a lot of touring in Canada and the US. The VaGiants were a rock band with doses of metal and soul, kinda like Tina Turner fronting the Stooges (only NOT that good). Unfortunately inner conflicts in that band drove it to implosion in 2004. J-Rod, the singer from the VaGiants, and I started AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP shortly thereafter and continue to make music together. She plays guitar and sings, I play drums and sing...very stripped down and to the point music. When possible our friend D. Mitch joins us and makes it a power trio...two guitars and drums. Our first Cd 'Fingertight' was released in August 2006 on local label Transistor 66 Record Company and plans are to extensively tour to promote it. In late 2005 I also joined the rockin' blues band PERPETRATORS who already had 2 Cd's released and a lot of touring under their belt. Plans are to release a studio album in the spring, possibly a live album later in the year and to tour 30+ weeks in 2007. I have also been exploring the world of jazz, and have been performing in a jazz combo through the Manitoba Conservatory of Music. I hope to release my own music under the name MAMA sometime in the near future. But enough about me...

Awesome rocking out at the zooski! I had such a fun time! Funny how the zoo was mellower than times? I can't wait for the Albert on Fridayski. Your pal d'ski.
we didn't even get to practice...erica was really sick, and then my practice space wasn't available and then we couldn't find loren, who ended up being at his practice space (same building) waiting for us...gah...however, jean's off to europe in a week, so we're going to get a practice in before he goes... also, how's november 23rd for you? there's not much that sam has open anymore...
