1st Friday Western Art by Patti Doolittle at Mama HillyBean's
Friday December 4th at 7pm
Patti was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, left when she was only about 4 years old. Her family moved to Bakersfield, Ca..
she went to schools there. Married at a young age and began her career as a hairdresser for a length of time. Painting only
when she had some spare time and taking art classes from Clayton Rippey of Bakersfield and Betty Hay, Ken Auster in Laguna Beach,
Ca. Patti moved to Orange County and also took art classes at Orange Coast college, as well as workshops.
Patti found she had a love for painting people, she took life drawing also. Patti is more of a realistic, contemporary artist,
always feeling the need for more learning in her need for giving that extra punch in a painting.
Patti and her husband moved back to Bakersfield about 5 years ago to be with her Mother and sister.
She is now devoting her time to painting and being involved in the arts...Patti and her Husband John,
belong to Mojavemuleskinners, lots of characters to paint, which she has done quite extensively. Patti
loves to add lots of color to a face, which you might not find in real life or a photo...
Patti is a member of Women Artists of the West, which gives her a lot of joy to hear from the women who paint,
gets lots of ideas, critiques and tips., as well as being in National shows. Patti has shown at Ronald Reagan
Library with the Women Artists of the West.
Patti has won awards during her career, which is always a unexpected pleasure.
An Artist is always a student.

Alex Ravenfeather brings his Native American flute to HillyBean's
Saturday December 5th at 7pm
Tickets are $8 in advance $10 at the door

Alex Ravenfeather began his musical odyssey when he took up the saxophone in 3rd grade. He was a jazz major at California State University,
Bakersfield, where his classmates/bandmates included such notables as Paul Perez (Tower Of Power) and John Snider (Eddie Money) and was
mentored by renowned instructor/keyboardist, Doug Davis, head of the widely acclaimed Cal State Bakersfield jazz band.
In 1994 Alex, whose heritage is Cherokee/adopted Lakota, took up Native American flute and became, within a short period, one of it's
foremost practitioners, performing at many Native American powwows and gatherings. Alex is also a Northern Traditional dancer.
In 2000, he teamed with Rob Kwait and recorded a demo album that synthesized traditional flute music, the earth's own voices and more
modern sounds into a musical blend all their own. This warmly received recording was followed by 2004's "Journey To The Dreamtime".
Co-written and co-produced by Alex and Rob. "Journey To The Dreamtime" took their shared musical vision to new heights.
In the summer of 2004, Alex began working with Robert Spalding, a singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer of Cherokee descent. A truly
unique musical style has arisen from their collaboration which, while "tipping its hat" to the pioneering work of Carlos Nakai and
William Eaton in certain compositions, defies categorization by drawing from an incredibly diverse range musical genres and must be
experienced to be truly understood and fully appreciated. Alex and Robert have been performing steadily since late 2004 and are
presently working on their first album, due for release in the winter of 2006.

Eastern War Time & Redd light up at Mama HillyBean's
Friday December 11th at 7pm
Eastern War Time
Playing together for 8 years, this husband and wife prefer to play Americana, jazz and folk.
With beautiful vocals and brilliant guitar playing they will inspire you with an eclectic blend of songs.
They first showed up at our Open Mic night and played at our Earth day Celebration. They've also played at Taste of Tehachapi and Concerts in the park.
We're glad to have them return
Redd ("It's short for Sacred") first heard her name on a rare dry breeze across an Oregonean Beltane field.
Rhythmic pulsing like a bonfire drum are the oceanic forces that shape and guide us all. . . and thus came Redd and
her Koaloha Pineapple to the Tehachapi Mountains. It can be said that Redd did not so much choose to play the
Uke as much as the Uke asked to accompany her. Josh Moss, here all the way from the Appalachian foothills of Virginia,
will be accompanying Redd as well"single handedly drumming and strumming"both bass and guitar. When asked from whence
she came a line from Redd's "Home away from Home" song says it all "My feet are weary my tires worn thin, I fear
I may never feel at home again, there's 3,000 miles between here and VA, I hope I get back there one day."

John Batdorf will be returning solo Saturday December 12th at 7pm.
Tickets will be $10 advance and $12 at the door.
"I have survived many careers in one lifetime. Starting with the 70's as a recording
artist with Batdorf and Rodney and Silver. We got to
play with a lot of great groups like America, Seals and Crofts, Dan Fogelberg, Linda
Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Bread, The Youngbloods,
Hall and Oats, Cheech and Chong, England Dan and John Ford Coley, Pure Prairie League,
Harry Chapin, John Prine, Dave Mason, Kris Kristofferson just to name a few! A great
time was had by all.
In the 90's I met and went on to write some great songs with my friend, Michael McLean. We have
recorded 4 CDs together.
Now into the second half of the new millennium, John has recorded a new CD with
James Lee Stanley "All Wood And Stones" (a highly original take on early Rolling
Stones songs, done acoustically with tight harmonies)
Come listen to John sing songs about things that really
matter to him as well as songs from his new cd Old Man Dreamin'.

Fun, fun, fun! Banshee in the Kitchen Returns to Mama HillyBean's
Friday December 18th at 7pm
Tickets are $8 in advance $10 at the door

Banshee in the Kitchen plays Celtic music with eclectic skill and merry abandon. Touring and recording
since 2002, the trio has delighted audiences in festivals, theaters, living rooms, and countless other
venues from New York to Los Angeles, and soon, Japan. They take traditional Celtic tunes, find the sweet
spot between old and new, stirring it all up with trademark playfulness and musicality they
term "banshee-fying".
"Banshee in the Kitchen's performance at our house concert brought the audience to its feet
with a standing ovation, and a well deserved encore. Fun, fun, fun!"
- Russ & Julie, producers, Russ and Julie's House Concerts
Critics praise their instrumental precision and flair for arrangement, concert producers
love the way they can pack a house, educators rave over their ability to tap into the passion
of their students, while audiences applaud the fun and oh-so-musical experience of being with
Banshee in the Kitchen.
The audience loves them. Not only are they accomplished musicians, but they are very engaging,
excellent performers.

Lost Hills brings his stories to HillyBean's
Saturday December 19th at 7pm.
Lost Hills is a poet, songwriter and environmental and peace activist from the Kern River Valley. He started performing
on the San Diego folk scene in the 1980s, and began writing songs when he lived across the highway from the Old Time Cafe
in Leucadia. He has traveled far and wide and has lived in Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Northern California, Bakersfield and
Las Vegas, eventually returning to the Southern Sierra region where he grew up. He is a student of the life and times of
Woody Guthrie and the migration of the dust bowl refugees to California. Lost Hills likes to play solo with acoustic guitar
and harmonica. His songs of love, death and wandering in the wilderness are rooted in traditional American folk music and
informed by his travels and experiences. He loves songs that tell a story, like the old traditional ballads, songs that
have something to say about the human condition, and songs that address the social and political issues of our day. He thinks
that live performance is the purest artistic expression, but he's fond of saying, "I'm not a musician, I'm just a folk singer."
Or maybe he's a storyteller with a guitar and harmonica.
