STARDUST
PAST FUTURE TODAY
Titel - Rainy day - tells about needless events such as fall in battle or killing by hooligans. Mietek Jurecki sprinkles some Mark Knopfler riffs over arrangements, sounds great too.
MAMA OLIVER & ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS feat. CHARLIE HART (GB) @ UNDISPUTED PEACE FESTIVAL Vienna 1st.March 08
It's always a great pleasure to be on stage with my "family band;-)" the ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS. This time we were honored to having with us accordionist, violinist, composer, author and member of Chris Jagger's Atcha, CHARLIE HART.
Later he and I hit the stage again for playing together with the LOOP DOCTORS, performing the "Don't fix it - Remix" live on stage which was recorded on Charlie Hart's recent album release: "CHARLIE HART - GROOVES & ROOTS"
Thank you Charlie you're really great!

Behind Mama Oliver is more than just a band. In 1974, Ulrike Kuehlwein left Offenbach am Main (Germany) and moved to Vienna. Following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, she designed a famous poster depicting her son Oliver, photographed at the age of barely 3 as he fished in the water of Lake Maggiore. Above this image, the verses of the poem "Wiegenlied 2035" ["Lullaby 2035"] by the author Herbert Janschka (a poem which has been translated into 18 languages) were printed as a kind of warning sign.
At the "Rock Against Atom" festival in the same year at the Loreley (GER), she organised a stand. Her dogged persistence got her into the backstage area, where she met the artists Udo Lindenberg, Inga Rumpf, Peter Maffay, H.R. Kunze and Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt (!). All of them signed a copy of the Wiegenlied-poster.
The LULLABY Song - performed by MAMA OLIVER & ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS feat. MIETEK JURECKI (PL) opening the 13th Undisputed Peace Festival at Jazzclub "Reigen" Vienna march 09.
Back in Vienna, Kuehlwein then began the search to form a band to put music to her lyrics. She met her future husband Friedrich 'Freak' Weber, a music publisher, producer and lead performer with the Viennese underground group "Freak Weber und die Sackratten", who trained her voice and then formed the Freak Weber Rock Band with her.
Through their live tours they developed contacts with Polish jazz artists, amongst others, but the "Mama Oliver" project was only launched in 1994. They were joined by Michael Strasser as the third member; his background was in the Vienna techno and house scene, and he extended the Mama Oliver sound.
The trio was instantly able to make a name for itself. Their debut maxi single "Mama Oliver ghosts at home" (issued 23 July 1995 on the FRW label) was reviewed in the well-known billboard magazine "Music & Media" by Raul Cairo and even at that stage he recognised their potential and wrote: "... the material is highlighted by the vocals of Ulrike Kuehlwein...". In fact, she was to enjoy international successes with remixes of titles from this CD. The unmistakable manner in which the singer interprets the line "we've got a passion, it's called peace" on "East West" quickly established itself as a cult track as a result of a Kruder & Dorfmeister remix (Mama Oliver - East West/ Uptight; K & D sessions ao).
Once derided as the "commercial artist who sings" on account of the Wiegenlied project, "Mama Oliver" can now also delight in high-quality, international advertising commissions, which she attracts as a singer, composer and author on TV-Spots for Margaret Astor (Europe), Lexus IS 300/ Toyota (USA) and others. Two other CD singles have been released "Listen to the pouring rain" (1997), "I need no lover" (1999)and the first studio album "Spirit" (2001). Followed by various Remixes, Singles and recent double CD "Pleasant Touch" ...
Meanwhile "Discogs" is listing 28 releases with "Mama Oliver".
Among others also:
CHARLIE HART "Don't fix it - Loop Doctors Remix feat. Mama Oliver (voc.)" on his recent CD album release "GROOVES & ROOTS"; and also CHRIS JAGGER - JUNKMAN [Loop Doctors Remix] are the latest results of our "foreign affairs" ;-).
About MAMA OLIVER feat. LCB (60ies Trip Hop/ Jazz):
The singer celebrates 60s trip hop, mixed from elements of R & B, acid jazz, soul and funk, performing together with the Vienna-based musicians of LCB (le circle bizarre) - Klaus Tatto [bass], Georg Eisnecker [drums] and Manfred Spechtl [lead guitar]. Harmonising perfectly, these three lay down a fantastic carpet of grooves, with their passion for latino rhythms being clearly audible. Surprising psychedelic and earthy counter-points, slotting seamlessly into the arrangement, are provided by Moedling musician Harold Weiss [keyboards] and the Viennas own Freak Weber [guitar, vocals]. Both are members of the legendary Viennese underground band "Freak Weber und die Sackratten" who broke onto the scene in a big way in the late 1980s.
About her recent band MAMA OLIVER & ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS (Psychedelic JazzRock)
this is "Mama Oliver's finest;-)" family band project (her husband and her son are band members), providing a catchy and sometimes crazy mixture of Drum'n Bass, Psychedelic JazzRock, Funk & Soul. As a typical festival- band, Original Suntouchers often welcome special guests and friends to perform with the group. - Often live concerts see guests and friends from all over Europe on stage with Mama Oliver and her mates. As the founder and artistic director of the European platform "Undisputed Peace Festival", she benefits from contacts with musicians and groups who follow her festival invitations and networking in Europe.
And also it seems natural that recent release MAMA OLIVER & ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS feat. CHARLIE HART (GB) show this collaboration. Original Suntouchers will keep on releasing live recordings of concerts with special guests as a serial. March 09 second CD of the serial, MAMA OLIVER & ORIGINAL SUNTOUCHERS feat. MIETEK JURECKI (PL) was released.
Band members: Ulrike "Mama Oliver" Kühlwein (voc. flute, perc.); Christian Rieger (bass); Oliver Woller (drums); Harold Weiss (voc. synth, piano); Friedrich "Freak" Weber (voc, guit.)
STATEMENT, THE ARTIST MAMA OLIVER:
It is a great joy and affirmation for me, a true member of the love & peace generation of 68, to be able to be successful in the new millennium with a genuine "message". The passion for peace was first put into our hearts by Jesus Christ and by so many people in the past. World events and the hunger of people for this peace oblige us as artists to do much more and to proclaim more about the love and the healing promised to us by a merciful God. That is my firm belief, and that is why I write songs. (Ulrike Kuehlwein "Mama Oliver"). -
