BIOGRAPHY
..
Singer, songwriter, piano player, DJ, and a college student, Zita has been influenced by a number of musical genres, some which have contributed to her own material. Originally from South Carolina, at the age of five, Zita began playing the violin, then moved to the piano at the age of twelve. Within a couple of years, she was writing her own compositions and lyrics.

In 1998, at the age of eighteen, she attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where she was able to utilize her talent in the studio and voice by obtaining a certificate of completion for the five-week summer program. She later attended Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon and completed the Professional Music Program in 2003 fulfilling her interest in the Music Industry. There, she was able to work in the studio and continue to learn about the theoretical studies of music. She then interned with Compass Records and Sony Music in Nashville, TN.
Though her style of composition has mainly been influenced by Rock, Blues and Jazz, she has always had a deep respect for electronic music. From the techy grooves of house, to the fractured beats of breaks, she has a deep understanding for all of it.
Zita is known for being interested in more than the scene, the clubs, and the flare of electronic music. She loves the music itself. She is a true listener of every underlining beat and note that is played. This contributes to her talents as a vocalist and a dj.
Zita has been playing electro tech breaks, tech and electro house and sings over her sets utilizing all of her talents in one sitting. She has played at numerous clubs in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington, and just recently became a resident of Big Johnson Entertainment in Denver, Colorado. She also played at the Art Bar in Columbia, South Carolina in 2004 as the first female DJ to ever step behind the decks in the venue's history. She has played along side Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Joey Mazzola, Eva, DJ Rap, Max Graham, DJ Heather, Greenvelvet, Stanton Warriors, Starkillers, Miles Dyson, Wolfgang Gartner, DJ Mea, DJ Swamp, Reid Speed, Otto Von Schirach, and Baby Anne.

Zita is known for her open hearted lyrics her bangin' sets, and the ability to really reach the people who she performs for. With a voice that is Janis Joplin meets Ella Fitzgerald meets Alicia Keys meets Pat Benetar, it's something you've just got to hear and see. She has a personal connection to the audience and puts herself out there. If you have the chance to catch her bust it out on the mic and on the turntables, then prepare to be hit hard by her talent!

Yin Yar (Denver, CO) Kaya and your's truley!

Who I'd like to meet:

Anyone who has a love for the present moment, a certain degree of compassion, a dry and intelligent sense of humor but isn't afraid to act like a dork, a respect for their surroundings and the people in them, knows that it's the little things that count, and knows that life has the potential to be beautiful.......

..

Interests

  • General

music, Buddhism, meditating, having a good read, hiking, education, feminism, traveling, anything in the mountains, queer behavior, art, deejaying, song writing, trying new foods, camping, the ocean, peace and quiet, my "kids" (my dog and cat, really), kindness, and telling the brutal truth.

  • Music

Rogue Element, Wolfgang Gardner, Pat Benetar, David Bowie, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Dire Straits, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Guns n Roses, Crystal Method, Thievery Corporation, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Fleetwood Mac, Poe, Block Party, Postal Service, The Sounds, MIA, MGMT, Saturday Knights, Talib Kwali, Moss Def, Janet and Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Madonna, Prince, The Young Punx, Plump Djs, The Rolling Stones, Simple Kid, Beastie Boys, Grum, Bird Peterson, B. Rich, Cromeo, Electric Six, Another Cynthia, Modest Mouse, Mozart, Beethoven, Outkast, Talking Heads, Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Donna Summers, Carol King, Garbage, Santogold, The Dandy Warhols, Radiohead, The Police, Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, Sufjan Stevens, Goldfrapp, Death Cab for Cutie, The Pixies, The Clash, Presidents of the United States of America, Muse, George Stait, and Bluegrass, Aretha Franklin, Led Zepplin, and there's more, I promise..........

I just recently found this and I'm sure a lot of you've seen it, but I think it's actually beautiful......

    and this is just funny.....

  • Movies

Yeah, so I hate picking these kind of things, but "The Godfather", "Office Space", "Trainspotting", "Requiem for a Dream", "Slum Dog Millionare," Michael Moore films, Batman flcks (the Tim Burton ones), other Tim Burton flicks, any old Kung Fu flicks, slasher flicks, Star Wars (the oldies), and others that i'll remember in a few........
  • Television

OPB, the Discovery Channel, documentaries of some sorts, cheesy mindless television shows on ABC (and I'm comfortable admitting that)
  • Books

Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Operating Instructions, The Red Tent, Egaliah's Daughters, The Core Teachings of the Dalai Lama, Secret Lives of Bees, the New York Times, National Geographic mags, auto mags, and yes, I flip through Entertainment Weekly and US Weekly in the grocery checkout lanes.
  • Heroes

Definitely a lot of the women that have been in my life who have shown me strength, compassion, and loyalty. Other people in my life who have shown me kindness, friendship, partnership, honesty. My family: they have been there for me through ALL my ups and downs. And to add on, everyone who has shown me support through all of my querky ideas, creativity, stupid mistakes, success, bad behavior as well as good, and all of my other life's challenges. THESE are my people, my heroes.
