Influences
Basically, whenever you hear a song, there is something in it, an unseen chemical called Pherosathamine which enters your brain through your ears, or aurally. This chemical stays in your brain forever and becomes what we call our "memory". This "memory" is added to everytime we hear a new song, so our influences are really taken from everything we have ever heard.
Rock/Funk/Indie, or "Runkie" band from Penrith in Cumbria. Formed some time ago, but only recently have we started to take things a little more seriously - we've played loads of gigs all around Cumbria and have also spread our wings as far as Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, including a gig at The Cavern club. We have supported the likes of Kubichek, Kieretsu, Gringo Starr, Digitalis, Lunaloop and Misty's Big Adventure. We've also played a few festivals including 9 Standards, Summer Fiesta and Kendal Calling, where we supported Dirty Pretty Things, Seven Seals and Grooverider. We recorded a demo very recently, the tracks from which can be listened to here, in fact you're probably listening to one of them now! Mental! We want to record more songs to make more people smile with more mouths with more enthusiasm so for this we need more money so we need to do lots more gigs which means more work, more creative lovemaking but most of all more eventual happiness for you i.e. the listener...
Described by Hydragenic as 'a subtle, widescreen sountrack for the bitter break-up of a relationship', London's Elks are unclassifiable in their unconventional brilliance, a band always evolving, taking chances and refusing to sit still. Following a successful string of European shows, the band are coming to Newcastle tonight, Monday 16 June. Also on the bill are Spraydog, Italy's Three In One Gentlemans Suit, and The Black Static of Summer. This one is at the Newcastle Arts Centre, entry is £4 and doors are at 8pm.
These United States/Vandaveer was one of our favourite shows of the year in 2007, so we're super happy to announce that they're both making a return to The Head of Steam, Newcastle on Sunday 22 June. This Washington DC outfit serve up country-tinged folk sautéed in electronic seasoning; along with artier neighbours Le Loup and Exit Clov, These United States offer melodic and amusing ideas to the post-Fugazi landscape, but they're still tied to thoughtful ones-in this case, mostly protesting heartless romantic antics - Village Voice. A co-promotion with our friends Ex-Libris Records, the bill also features John Egdell and Aaron McMullan. Doors are 8pm and entry is £4.
Hey there brothers and sisters, come check these out!

With another year winding down to the end comes the end of year awards - and the return of the TGM Awards. The awards are back for its fourth year, hoping to be as successful as last year's.
To anyone who is new to this, the TGM Awards is an annual end of year awards event, which celebrates the best local bands in Cumbria and South West Scotland. And with many local acts battling for awards, there is so much to choose from.
We can confirm that Man Bites Dog have 1 nomination:
* Best EP ("Finding Smoke")
Voting will begin on Saturday 17th November and close on Sunday 16th December, and the winners announced in the run up to Christmas.
