Manchas Negras is one of the names Paul Willis Terry, Jr. has used to perform and write music both solo and collaboratively. Born with a spirit for adventure, he has traveled the country and many parts of the world following intuition to find a distinct sound. Paul is manifesting this new sound that borrows a little from here and a little from there as a result of working with such an eclectic range of artists from rock to RnB to folk. It creates this melting pot like this country and like the blood in his veins. Call it latin, reggae, hip hop, rock, roots or folk it doesn't matter because it has sensibilities filled with all of these tied together in a recipe featuring catchy hooks and a funky sauce. Sort of a well seasoned, yet, fresh fish. The songs are a cry for salvation, a type of modern, urban prayer because he holds to the belief that music is a gift of the God's for man's enjoyment and his redemption here on earth. Paul's song-writing, both solo and collaborative have drawn comparisons to work by such towering and eclectic names as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Sublime, The Beach Boys, and Manu Chao. The music draws upon many diverse influences, but it is essentially alternative roots music. The music is a reflection of the diversity in LA and of the artists background that is rich in Latin and distinctly North American traditions. The sound is influenced by all these places, the people, and the many styles of music heard there. This music is for anyone that has ears, heart and soul.
