BBC ONLINE “THE GREAT UNHEARD”
Get your music videos on the Big Screen!

Following on from the last summer’s “Big Noise On The Big Screen” we are now looking to continue the original idea by becoming part of BBC Manchester’s “The Great Unheard” in order to reach the best artists, musicians, bands and film-makers from the region and to offer them the chance to have their work seen on the North West’s big screens. For this we need your music videos.

This is a great opportunity for musicians, film-makers and animators alike to submit their collaborations and have their work broadcast on our Big Screens. There are a few basic guidelines that must be followed.

  • Films must be no longer than 5 minutes in length maximum.
  • Submissions must be on a Mini DV tape (preferred) or DVD disc.
  • The musicians/artist must not be signed to any major record label.
  • The musician/artist must have full copyright control of the music.
  • Permission from all locations and contributors featuring in the video must be gained prior to or during filming by the band and/or the film-maker.
  • There must be no inappropriate content such as swearing, excessive violence .etc that would be unsuitable for broadcast on a public screen.
  • Please don’t send us original copies as we will be unable to return your submissions.

There will be more technical tips and guidance, as well as more details on what is and isn’t suitable for display on our dedicated Great Unheard page and on our Myspace page. For more info please get in touch with us on the web or via e-mail, we’d love to hear from you and help get your videos on the Big Screens

ABOUT ME, THE BIG SCREEN AND SERIES ONE OF "BIG NOISE

I am a Big Screen. I live in Manchester's Exchange Square (which is actually a triangle- go figure), and I've been hanging around here since 2003. There are screens like me in lots of cities, but I was the very first of my kind in the UK. So I suppose that makes me THE Big Screen, haha.

I am jointly owned by the BBC, the Manchester City Council and Philips, but let me make myself clear- NO ONE'S the boss of me! Sometimes I cut loose and play music videos by bands from Northwest England- places like Manchester, Liverpool, Bolton, and Macclesfield. As far as I'm concerned, some of the best music in the world comes from this very region. Don't believe me? Ever hear of The Beatles? New Order? Oasis? The Smiths? Yep, all from the Northwest.

But there's much more to the music scene than those legendary bands, and that's why I've put together 'Big Noise on the Big Screen.' Big Noise celebrates the musical and artistic collaborations of the Northwest's best unsigned and indie bands and filmmakers. The first series was hosted by the brilliant Gregg Ritchie.

Some of the bands we've featured were brand spanking new, and some have been rockin' the circuit for a good while. All of 'em are making some glorious noise, and pretty fabulous music videos too. So come on down and help keep me rock/pop/folk/punk-ing out in Exchange Square just like we did in the Summer of '06 with 'Big Noise on the Big Screen!' Nice one.

Hey - A crazy thought... Would it be worth organising a some kind of "Big Screen Gig" where all the bands featured on it get together? Just an idea?

Hey Big Screen! Didn't know you had fingers! I guess you've got one of your BBC slaves to do all the typing.

It's great to part of the Big Screen and I hope it gives some much needed exposure to north west bands.

If any of you can't wait for the premiere of the video I directed you can see it on mine or Fultons Point's MySpace. I could of course c&p the code into here but that would be too easy wouldn't it.
