John Ellis Hammond Organ, piano and vocals, Ed Kainyek Sax, Andy Hillier Trombone, Matt Owens Bass, Jonas Backman Drums.
Influences
The Meters, Ray Charles, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Stanton Moore, Eddie Bo, John Coltrane, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Booker T&MGs and all the great music with a deep feel to it!
Jonas Backman started the band to bring back the joy of listening and playing the kind of music that puts him in a good mood and just makes us all want to laugh, dance and sing!
It's a mixture of influences from the New Orleans second line music,
60s New Orleans soul and funk and jazz from New York. Like a cross
between Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Meters, Booker T and the MGs, Ray
Charles and John Coltrane.
We do both originals and standards and the aim is not to go back in time
but to capture the joy and feel from the music that we're inspired by.
