  • Bio

Arthur Deighton aka Mandoline Man has been making music since he was six years old. He grew up in a musical family who toured and recorded as The Deighton family in the eighties and early nineties. The Deighton family created an eclectic heady mix of acoustic music; combining Rock and roll standards with cajun, folk, oldtimey, jazz and bluegrass music. Touring the US and Canada, Denmark, the UK and Scotland, and the Benelux countries. Together they put out three Albums one of which earned them ' album of the year' on National Public Radio in the states. Arthur moved to the Netherlands in 92 where he graduated as a music therapist. Since 1998 he has combined working as a music therapist ( a brilliant job in that you use music as a fantastic means for communication and I spend most of my day making music ) with working as a musician. Playing in numerous bands and projects on mandoline, guitar (acoustic and electric), bass, drums and percussion and vocals. Folk and rootsy music is where his roots lie but he also loves playing bluesy, funky, rootsy, experimental, music hall, reggea and dance music. Mostly on guitar and mandoline but sometimes on drums, bass, piano or percussion. Arthur now mainly plays with funkgenerator (www.funkgenerator.com) and the acoustic kids on the mountain. they play all over the netherlands and germany. he has just completed a succesful mini reunion tour with the deighton family. He also played with cyrus Gabrysch who did the support. Arthur and his sister kathleen play on most of his debut album 'heart of wine' which has just been released on self adhesive records and is available at all online stores. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. p align=center>.......... ....Myspace Layouts.. at Pimp-My-Profile.com / ..Street Life.. - ..Image Hosting.... object width="425" height="344">.............. .. .. .. .. .. ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

  • Influences

On the mandoline my most definate influences were and stil are; David Grisman, Andy Statman, Bill Monroe and Sam Bush. These days its Chris Thile who takes the mandoline to the next level. He is an astounding player. I have always listened to loads of music and still do. Indirectly and sometimes very directly I havebeen influenced by and love Ry Cooder, Richard Thompson, Santana, Elvis, Sandy Denny era Fairport Convention, Hendrix, Bob Marley, Traffic and Nick drake, Planxty and such like. Nowadays I listen to a lot of Tom Waits, Calexico, Bruch, Mendelsohn and Bach, Beck, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank williams, Johny Cash, Nick Cave to name but a few. Lately Ive been really bowled over by Scott Mathews. I love bluegrass, jungle, drum and bass, Americana, Folk, blues, funk, some hip hop, smidgings of jazz and classical, balkan beats, klezmer I even like Trance (especially GOA) and certainkinds of Techno. There used to be a time when I wanted nothing more and was perfectly happy with everything and anything by the Jam. There's too much music to enjoy out there and I try to listen and discover as much as i possibly can. If youve got something you think I might like drop me a line. See ya. Arthur
