Madeleine ("Mandy") Mercier is a songwriter and singer based out of Austin, TX. She has been nominated as "2008 Singer Songwriter of the Year" by the Academy of Texas Music. She was voted "Female Vocalist of the Year" by the Los Angeles chapter of the California Country Music Association, despite being a blues-rock (not country) singer; other awards include M-TV "Beach House Band" (HM) and honor Award, Great American Song Contest (2004) for the title track on her last album, "Wild Dreams of the Shy Boys." She has lived in New York, Austin, TX, Colorado and Los Angeles, and has performed all over the US; her newest CD, "Run Out of Darkness," was released in early 2007.
Mandy's most recent albums include significant vocal contributions by great singer-songwriters and friends Shake Russell, Dana Cooper, and Ray Wylie Hubbard; Mandy has worked many years as a side musician with each as well.
Mandy's full band includes Grammy-winning rhythm section (and vocalists), bassist Andy Salmon and drummer Tommy Taylor; guitarists Marvin Dykhuis, Boomer Norman, Paul Skelton and/or Kevin Hollingsworth; and keyboard players Chip Dolan or Dan Earhart. She also works frequently as a solo or duo acoustic performer. One of her most significant associations was with Uncle Walt's Band, beginning in the early 1980s, and later a longtime collaboration with Champ Hood (of UWB) and his band, the Troubadours.
Mandy is a friend and contemporary of Gurf Morlix, Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt, Jimmy LaFave, Lucinda Williams, and the Flatlanders (Joe Ely, Butch Hancock and Jimmie Gilmore) Ted Roddy, Casper Rawls, Rosie Flores and Chris Gaffney, all of whom she has worked with as a side musician harmony vocals and/or as a fiddle player. Mandy's songwriting and arranging are featured on "Wild Dreams" and her love of traditional blues, and original roots rock is more focused on "Darkness," for which Ray Wylie wrote the title track. Wow, Mandy, It was really great to finally be able to meet you. Your vocals and violin playing with Shake were just perfect. A really tasteful solo. I was getting a bit fuzzy by the end of the show seeing so many people I'd either never met before or had met many years ago. Whew. Anyway, hopefully when we meet again I hope that we'll have more time to chat. All my very best to you, Billy Bucher
Hi Mandy I still remember how great you sang at the Walter Hyatt Tribute back in 1996 in Austin - you are even better today! Thanks for being my cyber-friend.
MANDY! (SMOOCH!) So happy to find you here! You LOOK and SOUND as gorgeous as always. ;-) I was so glad when your name popped up while I was searching for you! It's been WAY too long, and I miss you. I'm in Seattle, but you KNOW I'm always missing Austin. How are YOU? My eyes are closing (4:20 am) but I'm so excited to hear from you, and will write more soon! All my bestest wishes to you, Doll!
Screw the Chronicle!!!!.....it's nothing more than a corporate generic rag these days...they're all the same! Austin, Houston, Dallas! Same graphics, advertisements, same photos, stories!!!...ooh la la!
I really doubt their reviewers have ever written a decent song in their life,...yet....they love to tear down someone..."a real artist" who does and try to express their feelings and stories!!
with
their reviewer's can rarely do what the preach.
remember....those who can't....preach/teach! They become reviewer's!
thank goodness they weren't around when Dylan struck out early!!!
Boy...that Dylan guy....he sure does destroy a song.....hey wait....but who wrote the song????
Oh, I could do that...just as easy as painting a Van Gogh!!!
Hey Chronicle...why don't you just go ahead and become a sex rag...it sells you know!?!
