| About Mangara |
Mangara are a 4-piece female fronted band playing a mix of alternative, rock, pop and emo music. There are 2 sides to the music - one shows the uplifting side with the memorable chorus's, catchy guitar rhythms and vocal melodies reminiscent of bands like My Vitriol and Coheed and Cambria. The other side of the bands music shows a darker side with instrumental passeges and built-up sections giving a much more melancholic feel.
The band formed in April 2002 by original members Charlene and Xander. After many gigs around Glasgow and a few lineup changes the band eventually found JJ who joined as lead guitar, and later David who now plays Bass. This is the line-up that has shaped the current sound of Mangara.
The bands first demo “Little Fury” was released in 2003 and since it's release the band have had several local support slots including bands like Betty Curse, The Halo Friendlies, Jetplane Landing, My Ruin, Walls of Jericho and were the main support for US rockers 3 Doors Down in front of almost 1000 people. In 2004 they got to the finals of T-Break and just missed out on playing the 'T in The Park' festival.
After some radio play around Scotland they were asked in by Beat 106 Radio to record Beatbreakers session/interview with DJ Jim Gellately. Word spread at the time and in early 2004 they won a demo vote competition on Radio 1 to appear on Vic and Gills Alt rock show. The band were then part of a 'Session in Scotland' performance for BBC Radio Scotland on Vic Galloway's Air show, playing 3 of their new songs live and giving a short interview.
The band have been extremely busy forming their new set of songs and their live sound. A new cd on the way very soon, so watch this space!
