Hedge Cutter is the lead singer of The Mangledwurzels. With absolutely no skills in playing instruments and less interest in learning, Hedge concentrates of performance, entertainment and trying to remember the song lyrics. Born and bred in Shepton Mallet, Hedge is as Zummerzet as they come, and was a natural choice when Jethro and Seth came looking for a frontman for the band.
Seth Pitt is guitarist, vocalist and percussionist with The Mangledwurzels. Seth - who claims that he was so named because at his christening the Vicar had a lisp - was born and raised in good ole Zummerzet with a lineage which included a pig-farmer, a poacher and a gamekeeper. Having always lived and worked not far from Farrington Gurney, he has since 'immortalised' this village in song. 'After all', said Seth, 'how many villages can boast a farm shop with a full size half-cow sticking out the wall?'
Jethro Tool is the one member of The Mangledwurzels who is not from Somerset. He was born in Whitley Bay a few miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne, and has lived all over the country before finally arriving in Bristol a decade ago. He appears to have now settled in a small village midway between Bath and Frome with a partner and a growing menagerie of pets and livestock. When asked about the credibility of a Geordie in a Scrumpy & Western band, he replied 'Ye knaa's, if wor Tommy Banner can be a Wurzel like, Ah can be a Mangledwurzel!'

Obviously the music of Adge Cutler and The Wurzels are at the core of everything the band does. The band members' own tastes - which between them cover most musical genres and which influence the music they write and play. It's surprising what sort of songs have proved to be easy to Mangle; the prime considerations tends to be a good thumping beat, a catchy chorus, and the ability to add 'scrumpy' and 'cow dung' into the lyrics, giving the desired effect which goes down well with almost any type of audience.
