Pining Mango's Interests
|
| General | Far too much to list here. List includes knitting, reading, various scholarly things, and lately, studying my ass off. Plus caring for my trees and playing plenty of DDR. Normally I'd be working on some background or siggy, as well, but I'm on limited time right now. | | Music | Hell's bells, my dear Lestat.
Actually, pretty much all of it. If I feel like being ambitious/obnoxious later, I'll make a list. Trust me- it's long. | | Movies | Just about anything Tim Burton does, same story for Miyazaki, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula: Dead and Loving it, Finding Nemo, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Au Revoir Les Enfants...I'm sure there's more. | | Television | I'm going to claim this space for tree quotes, as I really have no favorite TV shows. If you find any other good ones, leave 'em in a comment for me, please.
"Give me a land of boughs in leaf, a land of trees that stand; where trees are fallen there is grief; I love no leafless land."
-- A.E. Housman
"People who will not sustain trees will soon live in a world which cannot sustain people. "
-- Bryce Nelson
"A man has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human life when he plants shade trees under which he knows full well he will never sit."
-- Elton Trueblood (1900-1994)
"Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth."
-- Herman Hesse
"If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down?"
-- Jack Handey
"We have nothing to fear and a great deal to learn from trees, that vigorous and pacific tribe which without stint produces strengthening essences for us, soothing balms, and in whose gracious company we spend so many cool, silent and intimate hours."
-- Marcel Proust, Pleasures and Regrets, 1896
"People in suburbia see trees differently than foresters do. They cherish every one. It is useless to speak of the probability that a certain tree will die when the tree is in someone's backyard .... You are talking about a personal asset, a friend,a monument, not about board feet of lumber."
-- Roger Swain
| | Books | All I've been reading lately is textbooks and/or very nerdy things, such as the history of zero. As in the number.
I'll tell you when there's something worth adding.
| | Heroes | All the people unafraid to tell others they love them. The people that live through life's little disasters only to find bigger ones, and admit they need help. The ones that mess up, and turn around and look right in the eyes of those they've wronged in the process and say "I was wrong. I screwed up. I'm sorry."
The heroes everyone forgets.
And you, darling. Always you... |

Pining Mango's Blurbs |
About me:
Notice: I basically maintain this to check up on people on here who don't have facebook, and because it lets me play with/test my backgrounds.
Which boils down to me checking for messages, comments, and weeding through bulletins for things of interest occasionally. Don't expect much of the page to change. I may still blog infrequently, so if you want that, subscribe, as it will update without warning if it does at all.
I have come to the conclusion that no matter what you do, life will hurt. All we can do is do our best to make it worth it in the end.
I fence, badly, and knit, obsessively. I make a mean pot of mead and everything else I try to cook would be better used for paving driveways. My blood flows in five lines and four spaces in a variety of keys, and I've been described (rather accurately, I'm afraid) as a magpie by one of my best friends because I collect so much crap.
I live in an attic and have a 7.5-year-old cat by name of Wiskers Ferdinand II and two beautiful betta fish, Adrian and Vito, who live at my boyfriend's dorm because it's too damn cold in my attic. 40 degrees is a bit low for fish who live at 72 or better.
I'm on the eccentric side of the line, and can have rapid inner mood swings that go from laughing to brooding in a heartbeat. Scorpio, moon in Libra, rising Sagittarius, if that helps any.
But what it all boils down to is that I have scars and wounds and joys of my life just like any other person out there. And none of it is something you will learn skimming a profile on some webpage. I am not something you can learn skimming anything.
Lyrics of the Whatever
Pale by Within Temptation
The world seems not the same,
Though I know nothing has changed.
It's all my state of mind,
I can't leave it all behind.
I have to stand up to be stronger.
I have to try to break free
From the thoughts in my mind.
Use the time that I have,
I can't say goodbye,
Have to make it right.
Have to fight, cause I know
In the end it's worthwhile,
That the pain that I feel slowly fades away.
It will be alright.
I know, should realize
Time is precious, it is worthwhile.
Despite how I feel inside,
Have to trust it will be all right.
Have to stand up to be stronger.
I have to try to break free
From the thoughts in my mind.
Use the time that I have,
I can't say goodbye,
Have to make it right.
Have to fight, cause I know
In the end it's worthwhile,
That the pain that I feel slowly fades away.
It will be alright.
Oh, this night is too long.
I have no strength to go on.
No more pain, I'm floating away.
Through the mist I see the face
Of an angel, who calls my name.
I remember you're the reason I have to stay.
I have to try to break free
From the thoughts in my mind.
Use the time that I have,
I can't say goodbye,
Have to make it right.
Have to fight, cause I know
In the end it's worthwhile,
That the pain that I feel slowly fades away.
It will be alright.

Who I'd like to meet:
Someone interesting I can have conversations with, and who won't send me a friend request for no reason and with no prior attempts to make my acquaintance.
Unfortunately, I just disqualified 97% of the internet. Oops.
