Soothing sun-kissed melodies waft through the air and the infectious, syncopated mid-tempo rhythms of the French-Caribbean make the Manhattan Haitian Dance Party one of S.OB.’s most successful and longest running weekly series events in its history. Live bands from Haiti, Guadeloupe and other French speaking Caribbean countries take command of the Party and transport you to imaginary walks along white sands and tropical waters. Think, Sandals and Princess Cruises, think again, this ain’t no package, it’s a steamy fusion of Caribbean ease and urban grit. Glistening bodies wind and grind moved by the music. The Manhattan Haitian Dance Party experiences a great turn out from revelers of its cultural namesake, but because of the romance and sonic power of Konpas among the many other styles of French-Caribbean music, it’s begun to see patrons of all languages and nationalities. With the recent World Cup performance of musician Wyclef Jean and Shakira there seems to be a renewed global interest in Haitian music and culture. S.O.B.’s has been a part of that culture all along. This is definitely the late night go to with that special someone when you want to dance the night away eye to eye and toe to toe.
