While at the University of Massachusetts in the mid-1990's, Anthony Schwickerath wrote a series of "soundtrack" recordings. These ranged from jangly atmospheric guitar pieces evoking the southwest to avant garde and world music compositions for synthesizer.
After leaving the university, he returned to Colorado and spent most of the next decade programming computers and writing blues, rock, and folk songs. During this time he formed the rock ensemble Sources Close to the President and was also elevated to the rank of Captain Random.
In early 2007, he had an idea for a concept album. While searching for his voice, he wrote Blue, a minimal piece for guitar and piano which perfectly fit one of the scenes. Reactions to this were enthusiastic. The remainder of the album was put on hold while he worked on other projects, including the rock duo Spandex Jellybeans.
2009 will finally see the release of Winter Colors, the concept album that started on a snowy day in 2007. The second album, begun as the soundtrack to his 2008 NaNoWriMo gothic horror novel, will follow in time for Halloween 2009 or 2010. In an effort to be easier to spell and to pronounce, the solo project has been given Captain Random's anagrammatic moniker Maniac Art Pond.
