   About Maniac SiouxperNatch

IN THE BEGINNING Maniac The SiouxperNatural is an underground MC/Producer from Eagle Butte, South Dakota on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Indian Reservation. As a child growing up on the rez you see and experience lots of negativity, (its rare that you don’t) and like many other kids his age he witnessed alcoholism in the form of his father and most of his family, he witnessed drug abuse, domestic violence, gang violence and helped bury many friends and family members that were lost to suicide, murder and disease. But instead of becoming another statistic in this never ending cycle, he chose to use what he witnessed to tell the world of another world.

MANIACS MISSION Maniac began his journey in Hip-Hop as a graffiti artist during his early teens, never one to talk much in or out of school he chose to speak with a spray can. Then a few years ( and a few arrests later) he picked up DJing from a friend in school, he soon bought his own turntables and started Djing at house parties, many of his friends would grab the mic at parties and battle rap, Maniac decided to give it a try. After practicing for weeks by freestyling about anything he saw he decided to battle the older kids that always battled at parties. It went over well and one person said “That guy raps like a fuckin Maniac!” and so the name was kept.

EARLY CAREER In 2000 Maniac released a sampler disc with 8 tracks that was handed out for free, not many were made (only about 25) and he remained pessimistic about the whole venture, but after about a week or two he started getting good feedback from those that heard it. It was dark, brutal music, inspired by Maniacs favorite rappers at the time including Brotha Lynch Hung, Necro, Twiztid, NATAS, Esham, Ganxta NIP, Bushwick Bill, Flatliners, Gravediggaz, Spice 1, Wu-Tang and a slew of others. It was also greatly inspired by lots of Death Metal (Maniacs favorite genre of music) such as Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Gwar, Suffocation, Megadeath, Iron Maiden and more. One good thing (or bad) that came out of Maniacs childhood was the time he spent with his grandfather who was a huge fan of Horror movies, every time he visited him they would watch two or three horror movies together, and that imagery stayed in Maniacs head permanently, and those who listen can hear it come out in the music. In 2001 Maniac decided to go all out and make an actual album (as actual as he could afford anyways) , with nothing more than a computer and a computer mic, Maniac wrote and produced his first album entitled “Horror-Hop” the disc only sold about 100 copies but it also cemented his name locally as an artist. In 2002 he released his second album called “Rezervation Underground”, that album sold a little more than 100, but afterwards people began to take notice. He landed a couple interviews with newspapers and radio stations but nothing more. In 2003 he released yet another album “The SiouxperNatural” which launched quite possibly his most famous song to date “Cold World” featuring an incredible female singer named Memoree LeCompte from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe ,the song blew up. You couldn’t turn the radio on at anytime of day without hearing the song, the song was basically a rez life song, just speaking about things that everyone living on reservations go through everyday, it also won the local radio station KLND’s “Song of the Year” for 03 the album sold close to 500 copies, all self made and sold out the trunk.

SIOUXPERNATURAL SIGNS Soon after the success of “The SiouxperNatural” Maniac began working with Gabe Night Shield, the owner of South Dakotas first hip-hop record label “Night Shield Ent.”. After a show they did in Rapid City South Dakota, Night Shield presented an offer to sign Maniac to an independent record deal, papers were signed and the process to make his debut on the label began. “Nightmerika” was released in 2004 and was critically acclaimed, being nominated for both the Indian Summer Music Awards and Native American Music Awards, the album has since sold thousands nationwide. The album stayed versatile and covered many subjects including politics, reservation life, suicide and violence. Maniac received plenty of hate mail from so called “Traditional Indians” (who were no more than new age hippies) because of the album, saying that Maniac shines a bad light on the reservation and that its not as bad as he says, but obviously these people didn’t grow up the way he did. His second album on the label entitled “Paranormal: The War Within” was an album of pure self anguish (hence the name The War Within) Maniac was going through a lot more struggle in life then usual, the deaths of family and friends, poverty, legal issues, a relationship of seven years ended, friends turning they’re backs, and basic hatred from all angles made this album a lot deeper but also a lot darker, with songs such as “I”, “Everything’s Eventual”, “No More Tears” and the war story of an Iraqi war veteran called “All That He Passes”, the album was sorrowful for the most part, but Maniac looks at it as this, “Hip-Hop is about releasing your inner thoughts, its about expression, no matter what people say about your opinion its still your opinion, I have edited myself in the past, but I never will never again. And those that don’t like me or my music can fuck off ”. The Album was once again nominated for the Native American Music Awards and Won best Hip-Hop album of the year for the Indian Summer Music Awards. It has also sold thousands of units across the country.

NOW IN LIFE Maniacs career has taken him around the country, he has done shows as far north as North Dakota, as far east as New York and as far south as Arizona and New Mexico. He has done shows with such artists as Boom Bap Project, David Banner, Lil Jon, Trina, Proof (RIP) and many more. He has also established himself as a battle MC, destroying numerous rappers in competitions in South Dakota and Minnesota, “I don’t like doin that shit anymore, its cool when your comin up, trynna make a name for yourself, but when you do it to much you get cornered into it and then everyone just looks at you as a battle rapper and nothing more.” Says Maniac. After two albums that were very versatile Maniac has decided to return to his roots and start making the music he made at the beginning of his career, the music he enjoys making, Dark, Brutal, Scary, some call it horror core, but Maniac has always known it as “The Wicked Shit” he ventured into other territories and didn’t like it, now in a new era of hip-hop that has become a mockery of its former self, Maniac will proceed in another direction, with a new group called “DAYWALKERS”, formed with Detroit’s grimey underground MC “F. DUX”. They are planning to release the groups debut album later in 2009.

“Its time to bring that dark shit back, how did we ever lose it?/ That hardcore stab you in the fuckin face music!/”
