Books you should definitely read. Aah..gotta put more in here!
Sophie's World About a fifteen year old girl who gets a philosophy lesson from a man named Alberto Knox. The philosophy is actually true, so when she learns something new about the history of philosophy..the reader does as well, if they haven't learned it already. It is a wonderful read, and makes you understand more about yourself - because of the ideas you connect with.
The Host - An alien invasion for the peace of the world because humans are horrid creatures who take the world for granted. One alien is set into an adult female, named Melanie, whose love for Jared and her brother Jamie is so massive she does not leave. The love overcomes Wanderer, the soul inside Melanie's body, and she loves the two men as well. They, Melanie and Wanderer, go to find their loves in order to save them. There is so, so much more that I can't even say without giving it away.
The Kite Runner - Let's you see the life of afghanistan, without the terroism. A major part of this novel is family and how one mishap can lead to a life full of pain and turmoil. A book worth reading, and one that will be remembered for ages.
A Density of Souls - How the gay community was treated, is treated among people with too much pride. Ignorance among them. Allows you to understand more of what it's like to be a gay person in high school, and later in life. Also a great book on how a grudge should always be reconciled.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - The life of the 1920s. A young girl dealing with a family, a poor family. An inspiration for all young women, from being someone who can't be anything, to being someone for herself. An inspiring novel for all.
Gone with the Wind - A detailed novel of the life in the south during the civil war. How it affected them, and how some felt their slaves were apart of their family (and vice versa). Yet, the majority of the novel is of love. I wish I could go more in detail about it, but then it would give it away.
PS I love you A fabulous book about how a wife deals with the loss of her husband. The main character’s died from a brain tumor.Her family helps her fulfill the goals which her husband had set in an entertaining and compassionate way for the reader. It is set in Dublin, Ireland. There is a part that kept me cracking up for days. Much better than the movie.
Cry to Heaven It is the time when men become eunuchs in order for their soprano voice to stay alive. They become eunuchs at a young age because of the need and want for male opera singers, yet they still go through puberty. Guido loses his voice and must help Tonio, who has a very good soprano voice for a man who has not become a eunuch. Very great book...takes you in at the first sentence. Fabulous.
These are book series. Some will have the same author, but they are right next to each other so it’s not confusing.
Authors: Stephenie Meyer, Terry Goodkind, Anne Rice, Philip Pullman (2), JK Rowling…there will be more.
Twilight Series -
Two words….Edward Cullen. When you read the book, you will understand. It’s a story about a vampire and mortal girl falling in love. That’s the general, hopefully the thing that keeps you wanting to read it, plot-line. There is action, love, comedy, crazy fiction. It’s an AMAZING read, superb. I recommend it wholeheartedly for all audiences, even those ol’ youngsters of 40. There are four books, but the author wishes to keep going with the characters. Just not from the same narrative.
Sword of Truth Series -This series is fabulous. There are no words which I can speak. Richard is one of the greatest male characters I have ever read. Every character is written wonderfully, there is no denying that this series is one of the greatest I have ever read. It gave me inspiration and makes me love life. There are 11 books in total. If I’m wrong, SCREAM at me.
The Vampire Chronicles -
Unfortunately, I do not like these as much as Twilight. BUT, I love them nonetheless. Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius, Pandora, David, Quinn….yes, all of these are characters from the novels. There is nothing but complete compassion when you read their words, hear their phrases…it’s as if they have dazzled you by just words of description. There are far too many books to count, and I’m not sure if the author is done with the series yet.
The Dark Materials -
Starts off with Lyra wanting to know everything and then ends up something more than ever could be imagined from the first book. There is never anyway to describe this series without giving key things that should be surprises away. Just know, it touched my heart in more ways that one. There are 3 books in total.
Sally Lockhart Series -
Starts off being about a 16 year old girl who lost her father and trying to understand how he died. The man who knows about her father ends up becoming obsessed with her. She falls in love with a man who loved her since the first moment he saw her, and helped her through the struggles. She becomes pregnant and the child becomes wanted by the obsessive man who knew of her father. It all ties together and is a fabulous read, just try not to read it from the 3rd to the 1st book. It works, but it probably isn’t as much fun. ((Disclaimer: I didn’t know it was a series, and read the 3rd book first)).
Harry Potter
How many people do NOT know about Harry Potter? It’s been here since I was in 4th grade, which was either 1998 or 1999. I believe something along those lines. It’s about a boy who finds out he’s a wizard and must defeat Voldemort. Basic eh? There is so much behind it, so many side stories that explains everything in such an amazing way. The last book, which came out in 2007, made me feel at least that there was no need for more. There are 7 books in total.
