Introduction:

Hi, this is Terry Daun, coming at you. Something recently possessed me to first, see if I even had any Manic-N music left anywhere, and second, if I did then I was going to make sure that the music of Manic-N was not forgotton. Over the years, I have played in 100's of bands. Manic-N was by far the most exciting and rewarding band to ever be a part of. My only regret at times has been that I wish I had played real drums. Oh well, it was the 80's and Simmons were the happening.

Disclaimer: The selections I found are of course on cassette. Some fidelity has been lost over the past 20 years. None the less, I think you'll still enjoy it.

Now, to the best of my knowledge and believe me my dates could be wrong. In 1983-84 Jeff, Jim, and Dave were playing with at least one, possibly two other drummers. Apparently that didn't work out. I joined in 1984-85. I met Jeff while hanging out in the halls at Motorola (checking out all the babes). We rehersed like I have never rehersed in my life. Six nights a week, three hours each night. Of course we were writing at the same time. Many thanks to Jim for his practice studio and awesome P.A. which Jim made himself.

In a few months we played at an outdoor party (in June, '85). From there we won a battle of the bands at Big Surf in Tempe. Another one at Impulse (across from The Mason Jar). We opened for the Jetzons at the The Mason Jar a couple of times. Spent New Years opening for Killer Pussy at The Mason Jar. In short, I remember playing there allot. We also did 5 or 6 shows at various High Schools around town that was interesting. At Dobson High, our good buddy James lent his beautiful Cadilac convertable in order for me to have a place for my drums to sit. You see, what we did was, we carefully rested plywood across the cab part of the car and then set my drums up on top of that. It made quite an impact for sure for the 1,100 kids that were there.

Making an impact was the second most important thing us (next to the music). We never did do an "easy" show. We not only dressed wierd, we would bring five TVs on stage for the heck of it. We had a cool backdrop Dave had made. One time at The Jar, we covered the entire stage with white drop cloths and stuck a bunch of streamers (popping type) onto the ceiling. The crowds really thought we were... something else. Well, we had fun and we did have an assortment of HOT! beautiful friends (groupies) around. One thing that we did, was to hit the bars and clubs on "off" hours as a band. All of us together saying the same thing. I don't believe that happens in many bands.

Recording at the famed (no longer there) Pantheon Studios in Paradise Valley, Arizona was a real happening. Pantheon is were Glen Campbell recorded, among many others. Through Pantheon we met Tony DiMaria, someone in the biz. Tony apparently worked to get us signed, but do to the payola scandles, found only closed doors. Such is life. We did end up being awarded Soundboard Magazines "Hottest New Band 1985", that was cool. We closed the show at AFTER THE GOLDRUSH in Tempe, Arizona.

Eventually, Jim decided to persue a different passion, sound engineer. Jim left as bassist and went on to become one of the nations finest sound men. Jim did the first and second Gin Blossoms tour as well as many others too numerous to mention. We went through a couple of bass players and eventually called it quits.

In the 20 years that have passed...

Jim Coleman (as far as I know) continues to make a name for himself in the arena of sound reinforcement. Dave Lloyd, I have no idea what he is up to. Dave! please write if you get this. Jeff Neugebauer is persuing his two passions, writing and recording some (still) amazing songs and creating some totally amazing fine art. Jeff lives in San Francisco and has his own Spiral West Studios. See and hear Jeff at: www.jynkz.com

As for myself, I am still persuing my music. I need it like I need air. I also own and operate my own TERRY DAUN Epoxy/Urethane Concrete Coatings in Chandler, Az. www.terrydaun.4t.com

I want to thank the heavens for bringing us together. Thanks to the friends and fans (if they're not dead). Sorry, but some might be... it's been 20 years.

Thanks again. This has been an interesting stroll through time. Would I do it again? YES!
