Sounds Like
The momentary collapse of everything in hearty laughter.
New York City band Manson Family Picnic was formed in a woodshop in Bushwick,
Brooklyn in late 2007. Its five members play hand-me-down acoustic instruments
and come out of a variety of music scenes, ranging from noise and hardcore punk
to jazz and avant-garde classical. Manson Family Picnic has played alongside
artists such as the Vivian Girls, The Trachtenberg Family Slideshow players,
and Phonograph in established DIY and rock venues of New York City. In the summer
of 2008, this diverse mixture of sounds and people came together in a cabin
in upstate New York to record the catchy psychedelic folk pop tunes of their
eponymous EP. Manson Family Picnic completed their first tour of the Northeast
this February and will leave on a two-week tour of the US and Canada in August.
Press
Said the Gramophone: "He gives her gifts: a funny best friend; a yearning companion; a box of chocolates, handmade; a banjo with strings in silver, lead & gold; a bare tree, leaves stuck back with tape; a pineapple; a hot-air balloon ride; a kiss in a bottle; a photograph of a man saying, So?"
Song, by Toad: "Manson Family Picnic are a deft bunch and [their debut
EP] is a short but brilliantly assembled little record...consistently surprising...
very enjoyable record."
Knox Road: "...a knack for creating tight freak-folk tunes...I'd say it's worth your while to give 'em a try."
Circle Magazine: "...the band have a solid grip on a rootsy reality
all of their own and it feels good to trip with them for a while. Take a hit
of this stuff, you won't regret it."
It All Started With Carbon Monoxide: "Go check em out - they're
fantastic. Seriously."
Laughing Evergreens: "The five piece band induces true smiles (that come
from within)..."
JezebelMusic.com: "This band is quirky, kooky, arty, folky goodness...Keep
an eye out for The Manson Family Picnic!"
