My interests, like my life, are subject to change, and peaked by my curiosity. By training, I am an historian, but because I am curious, VERY CURIOUS, and passionate about people and life, I act upon that curiosity, and travel.
When I was a child I traveled with my parents to visit relatives in different states. I realized, even at a young age, that these people who were my relatives lived differently than my own family did...and my observations in life began. As the Thai expression goes, "Same Same, But Different." People are different everywhere, yet, somehow, we are the same.
I initially traveled to see new places, but in the process, learned that impressions of the people I met in other cultures were longer lasting than the photos of lovely landscapes, and my focus changed. I travel, in my own country of the US, or abroad, to participate in peoples lives, to learn how they think and how they see the world. I am, by nature, an ethnographer. For me, ethnography means trying to understand different cultures by going out and talking to people wherever they are, wherever they live. It means entering their world for a period of time, albeit a day, week, months or years, and sharing in their world, their experiences.
I have traveled with and spent time with unique cultures worldwide: sleeping where they sleep, eating what they eat, traveling with them, attended their celebrations, and observed them at work or worked with them. The depth and intimacy of my experiences has provided me with a meaningful understanding people's daily lives. I have watched them living in their world's, listened to them talk, taken photographs, and learned so much in the places where societies and cultures truly express themselves: in their homes, at their work, and in their communities.
Contact me by email if your school or organization is interested in cultural programming.
And then there are my pets which enrich my life and ground me: Harley, my American Cocker Spaniel; Cleo, my HUGE mixed German Shepherd, Pit Bull/Boxer; and of course, Rita (AKA Kittikin's)my Margay and constant companion in Panama.
Although I used to sing classical music (first soprano) I enjoy most genres of music....too many to mention... I also treasure silence and the sounds of nature around me... especially in Panama!
Movies
I prefer independent and foreign films. I like to work in the making of films, and sometimes joke about being a professional background actress when I feel like working a short term job. Films/TV shows I have worked on include Lolita (1997), Summer Catch (2001), Black Knight (2001), Little Britain USA (2008), and One Tree Hill(2007-8).
I am intrigued watching films which make me think: those which are provocative and challenging. My eldest son, Kevin Moore, has a natural talent for identifying really great films, those that make the main stream and those that do not (which are usually better)
Some of my favorite directors: Martin Scorsese, Orson Welles, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Luis Bunuel, Quentin Tarantino...
There are some great films on this site, if you have time to watch them!

I also like to work as a background actor (or actress or extra....) although it would be all shades of fun to actually try my hand at character acting. My "experience" is limited to Summer Catch, Black Knight, Bolden, and Little Britain, USA - as for television, One Tree Hill... I do meet the most interesting people, and I always have a good time working....although some of the work days are really long!
Television
TV - opiate of the masses. However, I would be less than truthful if I didn't admit there are times I succumb and watch television, but usually it is when I am very tired, or ill.
Youtube is the closest tv style entertainment I enjoy...Check out this new musical Tesla!
Drunk George W. Bush
I love to read! I have a deep intimate relationship with my books.
My favorite author? Ayn Rand! Laureen Vonnegut, an incredible woman I met in Jambiani, Zanzibar, impressed me with her dry wit and we instantly became friends. She is promoting her newest book using an innovative marketing approach. Check out Laureen's Serial Video Reading...What a great idea!
I read Dante's Divine Comedy, and in doing a web search on Dante's Inferno, came upon the following site with a test to determine where I might fall in the grand scheme of things...a la Dante. Well, it looks like I am going to Puragtory - not such a bad place, considering it could be worse. Personally, I think I should have been a notch down - Limbo! Do you want to check it out and see what your future would have been back in the day when grey was not a color applied to right and wrong! Link to this test: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv
The Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory! Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
My daddy, Bob Welty, and my friend Robin Morgan, each of whom endured physical challenges to their health and maintained the most delightful sense of humor and positive attitudes :-)) And my favorite cousin, Bill, who has watched me grow from a young kiddo to an adult, sometimes on the sidelines, sometimes on the playing field, guiding me, supporting me, and reminding me how much fun life can be... Kudo's to each of them! They have it figured out!
Then....there is the inspirational hero: Alexander Humboldt! What a traveler!

About me: La Casa de Coco Loco is a small house over the water in the village of Loma Partida, Panama - it is a very special place for the spirit, a place of warmth, of uniting with nature and the world, a place to be at peace with oneself. I found both physical and spiritual healing in this place, and am now sharing it with others whom may need a place of solace while coming to terms with life altering situations - offering an exceptional experience living in unity with the natural world. It is here, at La Casa de Coco Loco, or the House of the Crazy Coconut, that one can truly redefine life. Imagine yourself here: a gentle breeze caressing your skin, erasing the stress which prevents your body and spirit from healing; a place where you can swim amongst the multitude of colorful tropical fish living and feeding on the coral reef at your feet; sleeping on a jungle-laden tropical island, with the sounds of parrots awakening you in the morning hours; meandering through exotic tropical gardens with Rita, the resident margay, as your companion; walking through the jungle, wielding your machete, as you become one with the world around you; playing with Rita, and enjoying learning about this exotic animal whom will most likely greet you each morning as you awaken; paddle in the translucent Caribbean waters in a dug out canoe; and realize that life is yours, truly. You can claim it. It may be different, but it is still yours.

I currently spend part of the year playing Jane of the Jungle on a remote tropical island, Loma Partida, in Panama, and part of the year on Ocean Isle Beach, NC in the United States. I love to travel, to learn about new cultures, and to make friends....
Through Mantamamma S.A., my Panamanian corporation, I am developing a retreat on Loma Partida to assist people recently diagnosed with life-altering diseases find a sense of acceptance, and a level of peace within themselves, as they make the decision how how to go forth with their lives. It is my hope that I can offer this nurturing place, and perhaps it can be the first step in healing the spirit, if not the body. If I could provide that kind of special healing for even one person, I would be so happy, and feel as if I had succeeded.
Loma Partida is a magical place, a special place I would like to share with others whom need a place to figure things out. It is rustic - very rustic - a beautiful jungle-laden tropical island with a coral reef for snorkeling and swimming, and modest thatched-roof ranchos for sleeping. The basics are there, fresh water, fruit trees, a refrigerator and stove for preparing fabulous meals, birds of every color, abundant fish and lobsters to eat, a resident pet margay to watch, love and acceptance, and above all, peace. Perhaps the peace that is there can heal the troubled spirit of others? It did for me.
..
Who I'd like to meet: I would like to meet more people whose ideas and actions are positive: The Dali Lama topping my list - I would love to talk with him! And then, there are the people who want to make a difference in the world...Is that you?
