Bio
.. .. .. Manual Sex Drive began in 2003, when Monty O'Blivion was still a bright-eyed bushy tailed young scamp just learning how to play guitar, keyboard, and also MIDI and audio engineering. At first, it was just a fun experiment, with the first, ill-fated album "The Legs of Franklin Roosevelt and Other Tales." It included immature and hilarious tracks like "Hey I'm A Police Officer" "Hello My Name is Frank" "Banjo Blowout" and "Castrating Sex Offenders." Somewhere along the way, MSD took a hard turn for the better, Monty O'Blivion obtained a grown man's voice, as well as a certification in Audio Engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts, then went on an internship and was exploited as non-paid bitch in Los Angeles at wretched corporate studios like Studio Atlantis and the Swing House, before getting shit-canned and gradually becoming a real musician.... That's when the previous few year's work was scrapped and MSD became a more reality-driven, goth punk influenced project. The first official release, entitled "God Incorporated" was an angsty autobiographical concept album spanning across 18 tracks dealing with the inner turmoil of a young adult cast out into a solitary reality, struggling with feelings of betrayal and abandonment by religion, love, and the establishment, concluding with the apocalyptic song "The American Sea" in which overconsumption and corporate greed finally leave America submerged in water (hence, the American Sea.) The album evolves from light-speed digital hardcore punk, to eerie goth symphonies and throbbing dancy sexmusik. About a year after God, Inc. was released, Monty O'Blivion put MSD on the backburner while O'Blivion focused on his role as guitarist for AZ hardcore rockabilly ensemble, The Video Nasties, however the songwriting never stopped. Concerning the future of MSD, O'Blivion has expressed interest in expanding the band from his own personal project, to a more collaborative effort for fellow artists looking to break from the chains of close-mindedness and "genrefication" to create a movement aimed at destroying the stranglehold of the industry, and promoting knowledge, art, and political awareness in its place. Idealistic, yes, but without a common goal, the state of music and society is doomed to remain aimless and unevolved under the dictatorship of corporate entities, which is the antithesis of art and freedom. -
