Bio
Formed in Providence, RI in 2008, MANWOMANCHILD is a newcomer to the Chicago scene this year. Their music merges strong melodies with 70s-style glam rock swagger and a unique lyrical sensibility, and their sound has been compared to Lou Reed’s solo work as well as early Bowie. Other major influences include T. Rex, The Modern Lovers, and the Soft Boys / Robyn Hitchcock. In 2009, MANWOMANCHILD recorded its first full-length at Machines With Magnets—a studio best known for its recent work with Battles, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Lightning Bolt, among others. The completed album finds singer/guitarist David Child joining forces with bassist Craig Gifford and drummer Mason Neely, yielding dynamic yet tightly crafted arrangements that underscore the jaunty guitar hooks and ever-so-slightly gritty vocals. In February 2010, MANWOMANCHILD put out a self-titled EP featuring three tracks that will appear on the forthcoming album.
