March 8th, 2009 | ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END! |
Well, a few days left and it has all come to and end too fast. Where did the last 5 weeks go? Perhaps the time was lost making amazing new friends from Winnipeg to Vancouver Island. Or maybe it was playing amazing shows with Jay and the Lovebirds and Along Way Home every night. Whatever it was, we've had a blast and we wouldn't take back the last 5 weeks for anything.
On the positive side of things, we'll be able to get home to finish our CD. I have to apologize to the hundreds of people who were highly disappointed to find our merch table lacking a CD, but it will be worth the wait - and it will be available online as well as in stores. Thanks to everybody who grabbed a shirt and helped us along our way.
I'd also love to thank Vancouver Island for being so beautiful and inspiring us all.
Wish us a safe drive home!
Clarke
February 25th, 2009 | DISASTour AVERTED!! |
Last few days have been quite crazy for the MTE crew. No sleep for 2 days straight, driving though the nights, and a major bus breakdown.
We're lucky to be alive as the lugs and bolts on our rear dually tire physically ripped and shattered off the rotor while driving on the highway. By a miracle, we didn't lose the tires and were able to come to a skidding stop. After an hour of arguing with AMA or "gay-MA" and one sweet ride later, we got the bus towed to Ford in Saskatoon.
MASSIVE props go out to Dan and Abe of Kaleidoscope Productions who somehow found an SUV, loaded our gear out of the Ford repair bay and, in a few trips, and saved our Saskatoon show! Good Times!
Unfortunately we've had to cancel our Feb 24th Calgary show as our repair took until 5pm and left us no time to make it - though we'll be back at the Stetson on the 1st with our BFF's Along Way Home.
We've been trying super hard to get a great video of some of our live performances to post, but just haven't got the right shots and audio that, we feel, would be good enough.
Some Saskatoon friends did get a small video of our show at Le Relais and it does show a little glimpse of what to expect at the next two weeks of tour. You can find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sup1z6xqg0
The next two weeks of shows are going to be CRAZY, but between you and me, I hope the rest of tour isn't as dramatic. Hitches and tires falling off our bus isn't my idea of fun.
Until next time, Stay fit and have fun.
Clarke
February 15th, 2009 | STRIPPERS, EXTREME COLD, AND THE FASTEST WAY TO RIP YOUR HITCH OFF YOUR VAN! |
It's been an interesting and weird few days on the 40 Below Tour! The shows have all been great, and you've all been so amazing to us! Thank you all so much for your support! However, there are always some crazy tales to tell!
Perhaps we played a strip club in Brooks the other night, perhaps not....
Definitely a first for us! Supposed band nakedness, and maybe a drink or two, but I won't bore you with the details! Things got a little interesting, and maybe at some point the pictures may surface.
This brings us to Saskatoon, a show which was amazing, yet peppered with technical difficulties. From blown speakers to broken drum microphones, anything that could have happened, did! There was even a point where power cut out and yours truly was inspired to perform a short A Cappella segment! All in all though, you were all very patient with us while we sorted out the problems, and we thank you for that!
This morning we were loading our bags back into the bus to make our way to Humbolt, and we thought it would be a great idea to check out our trailer hitch. Turns out it was a very good choice. The rest of the morning and most of the afternoon was spent calling every welding shop in the Yellowpages to find someone who could repair the broken welds we had found. The combination of Sunday, and a long weekend was not very kind to us today. Unfortunately we had to miss our Humbolt show due to this. I apologize, and we will be back soon, I promise.
It's about time for me to wrap this up, so I'll say thank you once again, and remember that we all love you, and appreciate your support! Hopefully we'll see you soon!
xoxo

February 13th, 2009 | V-DAY EVE!! |
Alright, this tour is going by too fast. However, a lot has happened in the last week. We've stayed with some very kind people who've let us plug our bus in and/or hooked us up with hotels to stay at. Almost every single day, we've been fed and catered to. We've played at churches and we've played at strip clubs. Overall it's been an amazing yet bizarre tour.
Apparently we are in the middle of a war with our new bff's Jay and the Lovebirds. They plastered stickers all over our bus which are still there after Louis and Dougie made an honest effort to remove them. We retaliated by duck taping them together, throwing them in some icy snow and setting of screecher style fireworks inches from their feet. We're anxious to see what's next as they have uttered several threats towards us.
Restating my first sentence, I know this tour is going to feel too short. Especially since this last week of shows is essentially our 'first shows' as the new band. The responses we've received at each show have been nothing short of inspiring and I think I can speak on behalf of the band and say that we don't want this tour to end. Hopefully we see more familiar faces at our upcoming shows!
xoxo
Greg
February 6th, 2009 | PEOPLE RULE AT LIFE! |
6 days into tour - and WE'RE STOKED ON LIFE. I was quoted last night saying "...this is the most spoiled tour possible..." as each morning we've awoke to multi-course breakfasts, each night a lavish home-cooked dinner and a soft bed to sleep on. The shows have been amazing so far. Rooms have been packed (thanks to Jay and the Lovebirds for being huge rockstars) and the crowds have been so positive. WE LOVE IT!
Calgary tonight - Banff Trails Community Centre. Hope to see a few friendly faces tonight!
Miss you all at home!

January 9th, 2009 | NEW SINGER, NEW VIDEO, NEW TOUR! |
We're super stoked to announce the new member of the Mapping the Escape family - Thad Combs. Since the move to beautiful Edmonton from muggy and hilly Kelowna, we've been burning the candle at both ends to write new songs, make this announcement in style and get ready for a new 6 week tour. Dates below!
We'd love to thank Matthew Johnson for sharing the best 2 years of our life and wish him the best in his future. We'll miss you!
You also might notice a little change in the myspace layout. Where are the friends? Where is the player? Why can't I comment? Before you freak out, we did this on purpose! Until we want to release our new tracks, we're only going to give you what WE THINK you need: a video, a song clip, important news and all the information you need to come see us in a town near you! Enjoy.

Biography
Life leads us to strange places. There are times when the things that we believe are meant to be slip right through our fingers. Sometimes, everything works out perfectly.
People are born to do certain things with their lives. We are given a purpose, a single destination in life and it's hard to say whether most of us will make it there or not. The choice is ours, to sit and wait for something to happen, or to walk confidently into the arms of our dreams.
We've chosen not to wait around. Our vision is fixed upon a common desire to make music with no boundaries, no rules and no compromises. We're sacrificing so much for the sake of the greater good, dedicating ourselves fully to the future of MTE. We have only one thing to say...
