Steve Gray, Matt Stemwedel, Mike "Toast" Behrenhausen, Theron Melchior. Other contributing musicians: Kelly O'Dea, Paul Fonfara, Pete Lyman, Jamie White.
For five years, Maraca Five-0 threw gasoline on Denver's desire for ear-blistering, all-instrumental, all-original surf-guitar rock. Started by guitarist Steve Gray and drummer Mike Behrenhausen, the band made initial rumblings in 1996, made a full start in 1999, released its only commercial CD on October 31, 2000, achieved worldwide airplay on John Peel's BBC Radio One broadcast in 2001, almost died in June 2002 because of a serious injury suffered by Matt Stemwedel, and played its final show (with the help of Paul Fonfara) on January 8, 2004. The band is no more, but you can buy Maraca Five-0 MP3s from Amazon.com, or from iTunes.
For more info, Westword's May 2001 article about the Five-0 (which preceded their second appearance with Dick Dale) is still available via this link.
