Sounds Like
Bryan Adams singing a John Mellencamp song with Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan raised up from the dead playing along with Sugar Boy on harp, Clarence Clemons on sax and Double Trouble holding the beat down. We can play the down home blues that the black people in Fairbanks love us for or the old time rock’n’roll to make the Natives go crazy or we can choose from 160 originals that we do to make the rest of the crowd wanna shake their ass. We can play a little bit of r’n’b, country, funk, pop and a whole bunch of blues and rock.
Marc Brown was raised around a large family of guitarists, fiddlers, bassists and harmonica players. He was given his first guitar at the age of 4 and the rest is history. He was the first Alaskan Native to play a sold out concert ( 5,500 people ) at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, back in '99, when he opened for ZZ Top. He did it again the following year when he opened for Jethro Tull. He's also opened for John Hammond ( twice ), Eddie Shaw ( Howlin' Wolf's sax man ), J Geils Band, Fabulous Thunderbirds and toured with the Chieftains of Ireland.......................
Marc Brown & The Blues Crew's 9th release, LONG TIME COMING was released this summer and is selling like crazy on cdbaby.com. Check it out. Go to cdbaby.com and put in our band name or the title LONG TIME COMING. If you are interested in purchasing a cd locally or snail mail, call Marc at 907-347-7738. Out of his previous 8 releases, he's sold over 15,000 cds and cassettes, mostly in Alaska.
The summer of 2005, Marc and 3 local guys from Fairbanks, traveled all the way to Vegas, where they did a gig at the world famous, House Of Blues. The day before, they played a sold out concert at BB Kings in Hollywood. Two days before that, they played a pow wow in Idaho...............................
Steve Moore is back with the Crew and is holding the bottom down better than ever. His bass playing skills were recorded on the Keep On Smiling cd, which was released in 2005.
The other half of the backbone of the Blues Crew, John Bringhurst, the drummer, joined the band in December of 2006. He was a fill in for our other drummer, but we liked him so much that we stole him from the Greyhound band. He is without a doubt the best blues drummer that Marc has ever jammed with and he is also the hardest working drummer in Alaska. It's routine for him to play 7 or more gigs a week.
Jason Slats once finished 4th in a nationwide sax competition out of over a thousand contestants. He is featured on past Blues Crew releases Lonely Hearts, Keep On Smiling, "Live" In Fairbanks and is also on the new one that was released this year, Long Time Coming. He's been playing sax for Marc off and on for the past 8 years.
Larry Cantil first met Marc at the Blues Breakers in the early 90's and they've done hundreds of gigs together since then. Larry first recorded with Marc in 1996 and has since been featured on several cds. He was also on the hit Standing At The Crossroads, which got major airplay in '98 and '99....................
Sometimes we're a 5 piece, most times we're a 4 piece (harmonica, guitar, bass and drums) and we even do a bad ass power trio with bass, guitar and drums. Whatever ensemble we have on a given night is going to be the best music you'll hear in whatever town we're in. Local guys from the Interior that are holding it down with the best of them. We'll be playing at the Arctic Bar in Fairbanks, Alaska for most of the winter, but we are most definitely open for private parties, weddings, dances, etc.......
