Marc Davis, an 18-year-old from Silver Spring, MD is NASCAR's only African American owner/driver. Davis will make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series owner/driver entry at Bristol on March 21, 2009. Other scheduled Nationwide races will be Richmond, Charlotte, and Dover in his # 36 Toyota. The Marc Davis Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut for the # 15 Toyota will be June 21, 2009 at Infineon Raceway.
Davis began his professional racing career at age 13, driving the Belnavis Racing-Roush Racing Ford F-150 Fastkids truck and limited late model stock cars. He then moved to Joe Gibbs Racing as a development driver finding success in late model stock cars and NASCAR's Busch East and Camping World Series.
Despite his youth, Davis has over 12 years of racing experience, successfully competing on dirt, asphalt and road course tracks.
Davis’ interest in motor sports began as a young child after hearing about his father’s successful career racing F-1 boats and his older brother’s achievements with BMX bicycles. Davis began racing BMX when he was six, and he was determined to add his share of trophies to the family collection. After adding some hardware of his own to the family mantle, Davis moved from bicycles to quarter-midgets at age eight, and then on to Junior Dragsters in the NHRA.
Davis’ next move was to Bandolero and Legends cars, where he saw immediate success. In 2003, he captured the National Championship in the Dirt Young Lion Division and the Road Course Young Lion Division, becoming the only driver to ever win 2 National Championships in the same season. With several championships under his belt, he added the 2005 National Auto Sport Association Mid-Atlantic road course championship in the Super Unlimited Division.
While still only 15, he began fielding a team in the Florida Fastkids/Fastrucks Series driven by 17-year-old Jessica Green. In 2008, Davis added a Limited Late Model stock car team that competes at Concord (NC) Motorsport Park with 17-year-old Sam McAulay. Additionally last summer Davis added to his team ownership with a 4 car Bandolero racing program competing at Lowe's Motor Speedway Summer Shootout for drivers age 8 to 16.
2009 will find Marc Davis Motorsports continuing to support young drivers with the addition of John Jones competing at Concord Motorsports Park in the Limited Late Model division.
