In Loving Memory of Director of Bands at Prairie View A&M University The Marching Storm (Professor George Edwards)
The Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm Band is the university’s official marching band. The marching band is under the direction of Professor George W. Edwards. Since its inception, the Marching Storm had entertained crowds in Texas and around the U.S. The band has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most skilled bands because of its outstanding performances and showmanship. During performances, the Marching Storm Band is joined by the renowned Black Foxes, the university’s majorette team. Dr. Margaret Sherrod directs the Black Foxes, which was modeled after the Rockettes. The McFunk B.O.X is the drumline. "The B.O.X.", as they are affectionately called, was the first black collegiate showstyle drumline to debut a feature in the middle of a halftime show, beginning in the fall season of 1985 In 2001 the Marching Storm performed in President George W. Bush’s Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. and was a featured performer in the 2004 Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game. Noted band alumni include Terry Ellis of En Vogue and gospel singer Ricky LaFontaine of the Richard Smallwood Singers.
