   About Marcie Brown
NEW: Ms. Brown has recently released an album of new and original compositions entitled “Butterfly Girl”. The style is classical-gypsy-circus-world-ethnic, with musical influences from Africa, India, Brazil, and Ireland. Instrumentation is cello, guitar, percussion, vocals, mandolin and violin. Guest artists include Terrence Brewer, Katja Cooper, Ana Nitmar, Ramana Vieira, Steve LaPorta, and Robin Lewis and the Agave String Quintet. It can be purchased on her website at www.marciebrown.com , and also at www.cdbaby.com/cd/marciebrown

Marcie Brown is a globally versatile cellist and educator. From 2002-2004 she performed over five hundred shows with the Cirque du Soleil’s “O” show in Las Vegas. She then changed to classical music to perform the 2005 season with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra before moving to the Bay Area in 2006. Her new group “Agave!” combines string quartet with guitar to play fun and interesting arrangements of standards and original music. She also performs regularly with Ramana Vieira and her Portugese Fado Ensemble.

Ms. Brown has a Master’s Degree in classical music from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Master’s Degree in progress from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in jazz improvisation and composition. She has performed with lots of world class artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti, and she recorded and performed in Verona, Italy, with Yusef Lateef as a backup band to Sting.

Ms. Brown headed up the string department at the Oakland School for the Arts in 2006. She teaches Suzuki cello at the Sycamore Strings Academy in Livermore, and also, privately in her Alameda home.

Her previous CD “Night of a Thousand Rains” is an eclectic mix of original musical compositions that employs elements from many different cultures such as India, Africa and Brazil. It features John Blake on violin, Paul McCandless on horns and reeds, Bill Douglass on bass, Alan Hall on drums and brother Terry Brown on piano. It can be purchased on her website at www.marciebrown.com , and also at www.cdbaby.com/cd/marciebrown .
