World music+New age with hard rock flavor plus prog and jazzy influences..kind of third world fusion...
Márcio Okayama was born in December 15 1971 São Paulo Brazil.
His first interest in music came by listening to The Beatles,The Who and Hendrix :also learning few chords on the acoustic guitar .
On his early teenage years he grew interest on hard rock , heavy metal music and former guitar heroes as Randy Rhoads,Akira Takasaki,Zappa,Vivian Campbel,George Lynch,Jason Becker and Yngwie(to name a few)
On those years he was peforming with local bands, from pop music to death metal,from original to covers,and also won several contests on his town.
By 17 he was giving a lot of guitar classes and earning his living performing in clubs.
At 19 he dropped the journalism college enroll on music(he holds a major degree in classical guitar,R.Rhoads influence...) and focus on music full time.
By his late teens he performed and recorded with several bands, his main act was the hard rock combo Eletric Shadows and several top 40 bands.
Soon after he was also producing and behind tha desk for other musicians...
After that he began to work transcribing music for the brazillian mag Cover Guitarra.
He also developed carrer in that field being published several times by the brazillian edition of the Guitar Player magazine as colunist and transcriber.
During that time he was chosen to be one of the guitars teachers of IG&T, the major music school in Latin America(Em&T),there he helped write the program and teached at the Fusion and Rock degrees
He appered on more than 30 records as guitar player and producer.
His stage and studio performances includes the likes of: Eterna,Twister(brazillian major pop group),Kiko Loureiro,Edu Ardanuy,Raissa Machado,Nilton Wood,Sergio Buss,Silas Fernandes,Fickle Pickle, to name a few .
His first New Age projet " Cromato" was featured on the major FM New age stations and gained notorety as used on New Age lectures
His solo on his song " Guerra e Paz" was choosen by local critcs as one of the top guitar works in Brazil
He also wirtes for video spots and work as a record producer.
Last years he performed o some of the majors instrumental events with the Fusion outfit Garden All
" Marcio Okayama" is his first solo release wich he shows his rock edge and his taste on modern classical and new age added to his research on ethnic music(most japanese,indian and brazilian)
These days, Okayama works on record production, teaches a lot ,do a lot of clinics and is finishing other musical adventures:
