   About Marc McDonald

Marc's new CD It Doesn't End Here is available now at CD Baby

After fronting jazz groups for over 25 years in the New York/New Jersey area and such cities as Honolulu, London and Athens, in 2008 Marc McDonald releases his first CD as a leader, It Doesn't End Here. The CD’s mix of McDonald’s original compositions and inventive arrangements of standards draws on a variety of influences including mainstream jazz, Brazilian music, and New Orleans R&B.

McDonald’s career as a sideman has been active and varied. In a jazz context, he has had a long association with award-winning composer Jamie Begian, having been a member of Begian’s eclectic modernist big band since its inception in 1998.

His rock credits include concert guest appearances in England and the United States with Grammy-nominated vocalist Henry Rollins and studio work for bands such as Ween. On the cabaret circuit, he has recorded several CDs and toured internationally with singer Quinn Lemley.

As a composer, McDonald was one of ten invitees in 1990 to the ASCAP/Louis Armstrong Jazz Composers Workshop at New York’s Lincoln Center, and he also attended the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop in New York for several years. Between 1991 and 1996, he premiered several works for jazz chamber ensemble, solo saxophone, and saxophone quartet at the Trenton (N.J.) Avant Garde Festival.

McDonald was born in London, England and lived there for six years before moving to Princeton, NJ. He currently resides in the New York area.

Hey Marc,

Just wanted to swing by for a listen again. I really like "It Doesn't End Here" A LOT! Also, "Night And Day" in 3/4 sounds very hip. . .trying to remember if I've ever heard it this way before ~ definitely a very, very nice arrangement. Really, all the tunes are terrific. . .and it's such an awesome assemblage of talented cats you have in your ensemble, not the least of which is you, yourself. . .

. . .so glad to have reconnected with you, Marc, and I'm looking forward to our playing together again next month. . .

Until then, take care and be well. . .

Peace,

Greg

Hey Marc,

Thank you so much for joining Steve, Tony, and me on the gig this past Saturday night. You sounded fantastic, and I received some nice compliments about your playing from some of the folks that came out to see us perform.

I very much enjoyed hearing your sound again, Marc, and I'd have to say that 10 years (or thereabouts) in between gigging together, you and I, is far too long ~ I do hope we have an opportunity to have some "musical" conversation with one another again in the not too distant future.

Until then, take it light and keep it awesome. . .

Peace,

Greg

P.S. - So glad you liked my tune, "Lonely Tree" ~ nice playing on it by the way, particularly on the out vamp. Please feel free to bring along some original charts of your own next time I call you to play. I think everyone's tunes deserve to be heard. . .

Yeah, maybe we can get him to visit us and resume. I miss his vibe. Peace.

Dude, whoooooooaaaaaaaaa! Long time no see!

And I get to leave your first comment, woo hoo!!

You're going to Greece! Can I stow away in your suitcase? I haven't been yet.

I finally quit my Big Stupid Corporate Job, which leaves a tad more time for things like gigs and writing and even sleeping on occasion. Which is good.

Yay, it's Marc McDonald!
