I am originally from Australia and have just returned after a few years playing in Ireland, the US and parts of Europe. I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the bush surround by trees and kangaroos. Mudflat Road, Drake NSW to be exact. I was surrounded by some great people and creative artists both musical and other when I was growing up. I will always be grateful for their support and encouragement. But it was putting in fence posts and feeding cows or playing music.
I heard an amazing guitarist by the name of Jim Kelly play the guitar one day and it was no longer a choice. I NEEDED to play.
I learned the guitar and then headed off to the city to try my luck as a session guitarist.
And now I have recorded my own CD in New York. OOOOoooh.
I had the great pleasure of recording with the great Charles Fambrough and Eric Udel on bass and Mike Clark on drums (www.mikeclarkmusic.com).
Combined these musicians have been defining jazz and groove music for the last thirty years performing and recording with Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Herbie Hancock, The Head Hunters, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, The original Blues Brothers, Jaco Pastorius etc etc etc.
.... and now me. How luck am I?
My mission is to compose and play my music as honestly as possible. To mix all my influences together and define my own sound. To communicate to a wider and wider audience. To have a lot of fun doing it.
I cant wait to tour with these guys!!!
The sound on this CD is raw and engaging. It combines the immediacy of jazz, the rawness of the blues and the 'dancability' of funk. We had a lot of fun laying these down.
Thank you to all the great people who have encouraged me and been brave along the way.
Lots a love.
