Let's see...I know my mother saying "Los cantantes se nacen, no se hacen" was quite an influence...
My Dad playing Los Angeles Negros when I was a kid
My Big Bro...
Obie Bermudez, Jose Jose, The Young Lords, Las Hermanas Mirabal, Juan Bosch, Che, Simon Bolivar, Juan Pablo Duarte, Jose Marti, Pablo Neruda, Hugo Chavez...influential Latinos whose contributions made it possible for me to exist and write songs today!
Sounds Like
It sounds like me...I like to think of it as a mix of all the music that made up my life experiences..alittle rock, alittle pop, alittle cumbiamerenguebachatasalsaflamenco, etc...
Whatever it sounds like, I think it's new and fresh!! (THIS IS MY ENTRY FOR THE HEINEKEN ESTRELLA CONTEST...WHAT DO YOU THINK??)

Well I guess I’ll start from the beginning. I was born and raised in Queens NYC to an awesome pair of Dominican parents. We have a pretty big family (two older sisters and two brothers – of which I am in the middle), so vying for attention was tough. My mother was always the practical one whose dream was for me to become a doctor or a lawyer. My dad, however, would always allow me to pursue my dreams, which brings me here! I only recently decided embark on a singing/songwriting career after getting TONS of support from one of my best friends, Lilly! (We do not it support, we call it apoyo, or more recently, a-chicken…Lilly gives me lots of a-chicken!).
I’ve always felt like I wanted to be on stage. At 18, I started dancing salsa professionally, so my urge for performing was satisfied for the time being. It was last year at the LAMC that I decided that this was the path for me. After getting out of a pretty crappy situation with another person, I was inspired to write my first song (the song you’re hearing as you read this), and the songs have been pouring out of me ever since…Although it’s a process giving birth to music. I like to think of my sound as representing a little bit of my life experience. My family is Dominican, but my best friends growing up and to this day are Colombian, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, African-American, Haitian, etc. I aim to make my music represent not only who I am, but also where I come from and all those people who have influenced my life! This is only a first draft of my songs, so stay tuned!! Bigger and better things will be coming very soon!!

Below is a quote from one of my supporters on sellaband!! Simon McMurdo, YOU ROCK!!!

When many think of Latin- they conjure up imagery of salsa, samba and a variety of other Latin dances. But what many fail to realize is that Latin, in its own right, has so many sub genres just waiting to be explored.
Enter Marco- a young talent that has skill and passion for his art- he makes use of hard rock and melodic licks and hooks- so it may come as a surprise to many that Marco is in fact a ’latin’ artist.
His music defies the stereotypical expectations, and his ever-growing list of believers have come to realise that whatever genre he may be classed as- Marco himself, can only truly be defined as ’talented’.
The sound he creates does have a lot of links to his Latin roots, but also incorporates the ’American’ sound, present from his upbringing. Whatsmore, his hard rock element truly adds somethig unique to his music- and something to check out!
Plus, an important aspect of Marco’s sound is his delicate and heartfelt lyrics that document his life and struggles. Although many, including myself, may not have a fluent talent in Spanish- his passion and emotion conveys perfectly through every word he sings.
So, to define Marco may be tough, and to truly represent the music he creates in words may be impossible- it leaves me no other choice than to lead you to Marco’s page and hope you find his music as captivating as i do
