Marco Z presents his very own style of 21st century country-tinged popmusic. Traditional country and folk topics are mixed with contemporary lyrics. Musically he takes elements from the old era such as melody, phrasing and arrangements and moulds them into a perfect two to four minutes popsong. Some songs are fully autobiographical, others are made up along the way. If you listen closely you’ll always detect a slight hint of irony or a decent dose of good old fashioned common sense. Nevertheless, Marco Z always ends up describing the world he loves and loathes lives in.
Just to make clear: Marco Z is not picking cotton for a living, never worked on a farm or let alone rode a horse. He’s living in a fairly prosperous European town, walking to the heartbeat of a globalized world and just like any old regular country Joe he’s constantly finding ways to get his day-to-day worries out of his system.
Live, Marco Z prefers to be backed up by three friends he dubbed The Cosmopolitan Cowboys. They consist of Marleen Thoelen on bass, banjo and backings, Stoffel Hias on guitar, bass and backings and Niko Westelinck on drums and backings. In the past seven years he also did his fair share of solo-acoustic gigs as the front singer of indieband Superbox. Highlights include a tour around Spain and opening for J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. Recently his indiemotownpop-outfit Berriegordies made it to the finals of Belgium’s most prestigious rock contest Humo’s Rock Rally.

Marco Z brengt een geheel eigentijdse versie countrygetinte popmuziek. Traditionele country- en folkonderwerpen krijgen een hedendaagse invalshoek. Muzikaal gezien neemt hij klassieke countryelementen als melodie, frasering en arrangementen en verwerkt ze tot een perfecte twee tot vier minuten durende popsong. Sommige nummers zijn volledig autobiografisch, andere net niet. Als je goed luistert, hoor je steeds een kwinkslag of een degelijke dosis ouderwets gezond verstand. Uiteindelijk beschrijft Marco Z gewoon de wereld waarin hij leeft en slaapt.
Live wordt Marco Z ondersteund door drie vrienden die hij veelzeggend The Cosmopolitan Cowboys noemt. Marleen Thoelen op bas, banjo en backings, Stoffel Hias op gitaar, bas en backings en Niko Westelinck op drums en backings. De voorbije zeven jaren ging hij door het leven als zanger-gitarist van indierockband Superbox waarmee hij succes oogstte met Stubrusingles ‘Sissy Boy’ en ‘Getting Better’. Onlangs behaalde hij met zijn indiemotownpopband Berriegordies de finale van Humo’s Rock Rally waarin hij vooral geloofd werd om zijn songschrijverstalent.
In april '08 werd Marco Z met het nummer 'Pills Pills Pills' uit meer dan vierhonderd inzendingen verkozen tot één van de vijf nationale finalisten van de Radio 2-songschrijverswedstrijd "Schrijf er maar één". Hiermee ging heel wat airplay en promotie gepaard.

Yo yo goed optreden in de MOD voor Jessica Lea Mayfield, ik deed stage bij het geluid, ik vroeg me af hoe het eerste nummer noemt wat je speelde? Iets van "a little less me, a little more you" (sorry weet het niet meer precies, al even geleden he, maar superstraf nummer!)
