With all the foul human beings that have come from that state or should I say have gravitated to the state in search of money such as the Bushes, there are some grand human beings, native sons and daughters. In the history of the “good” Texas it begins with Sam Houston. When Texas seceded from the Union with the other Southern states, Sam stuck with the United States of America and paid the price. He had to leave the office of Governor. Later in the twentieth century there was Lyndon Baines Johnson. An ass kicking politician if there ever was one, but a dear and soulful man. History will remember the good he did. His wife Lady Byrd Johnson will be remembered too. Ann Richards the governor of the state will be recalled as a liberal rallying cry before the state sunk into the political rot in which it still remains. And music, well I didn’t really appreciate the Texas kind until later in my life. I can say that I really never liked country western. I still do not like a lot of it but there is an old gritty genuine strand that touches me. The four Texans that influenced me so much began with Willie Nelson, followed by Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely and Robert Earl Keen, Junior.
