Sounds Like
Breaks - Freestylers, General Midi, Autobots, Future Funk Squad, Tipper, Plump Djs....There are so many musical influences in and outside of breaks, it would just go on....a few are Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, R.e.m, Pixies, Brian Wilson, Coldcut, Bjork, KT Tunstall, Vaughan Williams, Sigur Ross, Jimi Hendrix.. ..erm..djwise i get to play loads of places now so there are totally different sets. For the big clubs, It centers around, Breaks, some techno into Drum & Bass if i get the chance, i aim to get as much dynamic as poss i guess...i like big cut up and rolling breakbeats, lots of warmth and atomosphere, huge drops, heavy rolls, phat and dirty basslines..Depends on the time of the set really, and i do love to build and diversify..For Bham Opera and real mixed age ranges, or with live bands i tend to centre around party stuff, so soul, funk, ska, that kinda thing, and for the long sets or hosting back bars, the trip hop, reggae, electronica, and scratching all comes out. Just sorted 21, 000 records and built a laptop to house Traktor Pro, so looking to blur the lines and always interested in creating narrative in the atmosphers. Work a lot with Vjsa and sometimes dancers and performers, and more and more with musicians. I like political, and inspirational samples, have built up a load of accapellas which i cant wait to use, and we've got a few interesting live remix projects we are working on, so watch this space, (and feel free to get in touch :)

DJ Marc Reck
Explosive dj sets, groundbreaking Birmingham events, and innovative collaborations are three things that have become synonymous with Dj Marc Reck. Though most known for his floor filling breakbeat sets, Marc's recent performances for Project X Presents, Custom Made, and the Birmingham Opera Company, have seen his djing now take on a more multi genre approach, and alongside his Mr Elephant radio shows, appeal to much wider audiences.>
Marc currently has five residencies, and co-promotes three of the city's most forward thinking events, alongside his work with various dancers, performers, vjs, and musicians both in and out of the studio. Now armed with a four dex
& efx traktor scratch setup, and his entire music collection, 2008 promises to see new exciting horizons for the Birmingham bred lad.
"One of the things you notice about Marc's djing is his infectious joy in playing great tunes. Bouncing around behind the decks, completely at home and willing the crowd on, he is so obviously loving being there that you can't help but love it too" - R Batsford (Metro)
His journey has been a long and arduous one, proving like so many others that he's prepared to work long hours purely for the love. It was back in 1999 where things really started to take off, when he got his 1st headline residency in front of a 1000 people, which, along with a heavy dose of Que club inspiration, kick started him off to creating his own events. By 2002 he was running a successful weekly friday night at the Academy, and after honing his dj skills at clubs like Spectrum, (and even his own house, which had turned into one of the Moseley party houses!!), Marc had developed a solid reputation for party rockin performances!
By 2005 the party house had grown too big to be a comfortable living space, so he gave birth to another breaks night in Birmingham, this time featuring guests such as 808 state, Future Funk Squad & Brothers Bud. It was here that he teamed up with Drop Beats maestro Boogie Dave, and saw them pack out the Custard Factory from the start of 2006, with their Rockfall events, featuring guests such as Utah Saints, Lawgiverz, Aut0bots, and a host of international breakbeat artists. 2006 also saw Marc and the rest of the Project X Presents Collective offer their groundbreaking debut event, which received national press, and fused the worlds of live, DJ, comedy, VJ, performance and dance into a seamless 6 hour show over 3 stages. Marc also debuted his first track - a remix of Bob Marley's Exodus and performed live with musicians, belly dancers, performance artists and vjs, in the climax of the show. In 2006 Marc was also invited to host his first weekly radio show, play his first festival, and play the main stage of Drop Beats Not Bombs.
Marc FUCKIN ROCKS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! - J Break - (Cyberian Nights/After Dark)
In 2007 things really started to get interesting, beginning with an appearance alongside the Freestylers, which saw Marc getting signed to the mighty Archangel agency, which then further led onto getting offered three more festival gigs, and being asked to cover the Coldcuts headline slot. Back in Birmingham, Marc was experimenting with expressive djing, performing with Birmingham Dance Collective, Lisa Wetton Dance, and Vj Chromatouch on a special headline set for Peace Not War as part of Drop Beats Not Bombs. A few months later Marc re-opened the main stage of the legendary Que Club as part of the following Drop Beats event, performing with Dramask, VJs and a burlesque performer. In the autumn time Marc was asked to DJ the official after party for Birmingham Opera for their recent performance of La Traviata. He secured another headline residency, this time for the eclectic Custom Made events, which by the 2nd gig, had spawned a review in the Night Times publication for his performance alongside Dj Derek where Marc's set was named "one of the sets of the year"
What an amazing set!! You got the entire room dancing and hanging off the rafters! Never seen so much energy in one room for a long time…..on a Sunday too!! Marc Reck ROCKS” - Mark & Shona (Custom Made)
On the events front in 2007 Marc also completed an events management course and gave birth to the the acclaimed Festival esque Mr Elephant Presents, which once again packed out the Epic Skate Park. Mr Elephant Presents raised the stakes with its innovative and interactive carnival style approach to each event, collaberating with local groups and promoters such as Indymedia, Jam Jah, Jibbering, local community arts organisation Dramask, alongside a host of local guests such as Samba Central and Sir Real (H.O.G). Rockfall returned once again to the custard Factory with guests like the Baobinga, Far Too Loud and playing host to Mechanoise's 10th Birthday Party. Marc was also hosting various rooms for other nights and the now acclaimed Project X Presents saw their second event with more national press and Marc DJing with a live string quartet, two VJs, a host of performers and a lighting designer, alongside debuting two more of his own productions in a set based on Joseph Cambells "The Hero's Journey"
In 2008 Marc has had his first 2 music commissions for the black country festival and events, and a dance on film piece for new vibes, alongside his Birmingham based Reckorder music project, and a host of studio collaborations. His multi genre djing saw new horizons with gigs alongside djs like Giles Peterson, bands like Mama Matrix, and hosting various venues from Bham Opera to the Botanical Gardens.
Also in 2008 Project X Presents & Mr Elephant Presents both delivered their biggest and most ground breaking events to date, Project X Presents recieving National Press, & Mr Elephant Presents being named Runner up of Best Small Promotions in the Night Times Awards
Also in the Night Times awards, Marc was voted best local Dj, and will be hosting the event this year with his first 5 hour set. He continues to review breaks for the Newspaper, (and is now resident at their events), and also hosts a live radio show every friday from 6-8pm on Rhubarb Radio.
Since 2009 has begun, Marc has been offered 5 new residencies, and work is underway on 3 new music based projects all of which promise new horizons and new challenges. Alongside his dj and music tech workshops, Marc is working with the Mr Elephant Presents collective on their 3 new residencies and in May, they will showcase their biggest line up to date with another festival style event, alongside showcasing local workshops. Project X Presents are planning their next big show, alongside an innovative multi venue xhibition, and are set to release their first film.
