Marc Kelly Smith is best known for bringing to the world wide poetry
community a new style of poetic presentation that has spawned one the most
important social/literary arts movements of our time. As stated in the PBS
television series, The United States of Poetry, a “strand of new poetry
began at Chicago’s Green Mill Tavern in 1987 when Marc Smith found a home
for the Poetry Slam.”
Born on the southeast side of Chicago, Smith’s innate sense of rhythm and
unflinching realism has made him one of the country’s most compelling
performers. Full of grit, his performances break poetic boundaries, giving
audiences an acute vision of what poetry is and what it can be.

Chicago Slam Works, the newly formed non-project that made its presence known at the Printers Row Book Fair managing the Poetry Stage, has launched its second project: "Fuel Your Inner Poet" a series workshop sessions presented at the Hemingway Museum in Oak Park, Illinois.
There will be eight sessions taught by various (TBA) poet/instructors from around Chicago. I'll be leading the performance exercises, a live version of "Take the Mic" The grand finale will be a performance by workshop participants on the front porch and lawn on the Hemingway House in Oak Park.

hey marc! the inter zep schools slam was a big succes and now the government wants me to do a interschool slam with all mauritian schools next year!!! 250 schools! big work... gonna do workshops with groups of 25 teachers on 2 days for 2 months as from january... God bless.
Après Barcella (Slam Tribu) en 2007, Laurent Etienne.com (Slam Tribu) est le nouveau gagnant du Grand Slam National 2009 de Bobigny. (1er sur 80 slameurs) C'est donc notre nouveau champion de France ! Dans la région Champagne-Ardenne, c'est autour de la « Slam Tribu » que la scène slam s'est logiquement installée. Ce collectif n'est pas qu'une simple bande de copains qui se seraient convertis au slam ; il rassemble au contraire des slameurs ayant chacun leur style : Selecta Seb, Mirko, Barcella, Gipsy, Dareka, Laurent Etienne.com, M'Sieur Dam et Didier.
La tribu a lancé ses premiers ateliers il y a 3 ans, avant de devenir professionnelle l'an dernier face à une demande exponentielle. En parallèle, chacun des artistes poursuit son petit bonhomme de chemin, s'illustrant dans des concours aussi bien français qu'européen. Selecta Seb a ainsi remporté un concours à Turin, Barcella a été sacré champion de France 2007… Et c'est maintenant au tour de Laurent Etienne.com d'être sacré champion de France 2009. Une belle réussite champardennaise !
hello Marc! just to say that im going fine... god blessed me with a superb job... for 6 weeks i did workshops and tournaments in 25 primary government schools of Mauritius, well paid... and this wknd we are having the great finals with the 25 teams on 2 days in a theater... so good to see how the hands of the Lord are working in my life! May He bless you too and your family...

SpelL dOSa : Fatras de lettres inertes à organiser en une pincée de poésie ciselée dans le roc des mots que souligne, martèle, malmène et harmonise un trio musical peu enclin à céder aux sirènes de la facilité. C'est dur, lourd et puissant mais jamais indigeste. Un arôme doux-amer à même de dévoiler sa substance à condition d'y gouter.... avant de reprendre sa dose.
