Concerts all over Europe including “Special Guests” for Nazareth on entire German tour. A UK tour follows, supporting Baker Gurvitz Army for 23 dates in front of 45,000 Brits. Notes UK’s leading music magazine ‘Melody Maker’: … Fans surprised by the power and energy of TEA, first band from Switzerland to tour Britain, here on the Baker-Gurvitz Army package. Reports MM’s Bob Ellis from the New Victoria, London on Sunday night: “I got the same buzz from them I had when I first saw Led Zeppelin. They came on to boos and shouts of ‘Get back to Switzerland’ and after the second number nobody could believe how good they were.” ‘Pop’ music magazine’s readers vote TEA for a second consecutive year 1 as “Best Group” and each musician in their respective instrument category as well. “The Ship” is voted “Album Of The Year”.
1976
TV Show “Rock Over Switzerland”. After last year's well received first UK tour as Baker Gurvitz Army's "Special Guest", TEA headline their second UK tour with over 24 shows, including legendary “Marquee Club” in London. Third album “Tax Exile” is released along with single “Alexandra”. Tours through Switzerland, Germany and Italy follow with highlight of 4 concerts in Malta at end of year.
1977
Last TEA live concert played in Switzerland. TEA never officially disbanded.
Late in the year moving back to London, forming a band called EAZY MONEY. One of the songs recorded, “Telephone Man”, is released 4 years later on the compilation CD “Metal For Mutha’s – Volume 2”.
Auditioning for “Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow” (at that time with Roger Glover on bass, Don Airey ..boards and late Cozy Powell on drums) rekindles Marc's love for solid melodic hard rock.
1978
Release of TEA's “Best Of…” album with two new songs. The musical legacy of TEA had turned full circle. Spanning over 7-years totaling 250 concerts, 150 of them abroad, TEA became part of Swiss rock history and the first Swiss band to conquer Europe.
1979
Phone call from KROKUS and airline ticket London-Zurich roundtrip for a weekend’s jam session. The band had played as support on the last TEA tour and the musicians knew each other quite well.
1980
First KROKUS album “Metal Rendez-Vous” features raw, high powered rock with new vocalist Marc Storace, adding with his three-octave powerfull bluesy voice an instant “branding” to the band as well as recognition all across Europe. Triple Platinum status in Switzerland.
1981
Band changes to American Management and signs record deal with Clive Davis’ Arista Records in New York. The release of “Hardware” is followed by extensive tours across the USA and Canada.
1982
Follow-up album “One Vice At A Time” is released worldwide while the band again tours non-stop Stateside and in Canada, adding even more to their fame. New music video TV station MTV features KROKUS on heavy rotation. They becomw the firs Swiss music act to sell-out Switzerland's largest indoor venue, the Hallenstadium in Zurich.
1983
This next KROKUS release called “Headhunter” will become the most successful album ever with the smash hit “Screaming In The Night”, charting at 25 in the US “Billboard” charts earns Platinum status in the USA. Co-headlining with Def Leppard and making news in the press.
1984
KROKUS are on a roll and release their new album “The Blitz”, promoting the new record all over Northern America, including a headlining gig in February 1985 at “Vina Del Mar” Festival in Chile, headlining to a full capacity crowd of 40,000 screaming fans and receiving the coveted “People’s Award”. A live concert in New York City is captured and released both on video and laser disc.
1986
In April KROKUS release their next album called “Change Of Address”, followed in October of the same year by the first “live” album named “Alive And Screaming”. The concert circuit continues, including 80,000 capacity “Texas Jam” festival, playing more and larger crowds well into 1987.
1988
“Heart Attack” is the eighth release in 8 years, pushing the band to the limit. Between touring, recording and touring again there is not much free time and it starts to wear on the musicians. Burnt out and realizing that grunge rock was taking over slowly but surely, KROKUS decide to call it quits.
1989
Exhausted by the constant grind of the last 8 years, Marc takes a small, well deserved break in Malta and starts writing songs for his first solo project of fine pop and soul influenced rock music.
1991
Released by Eurostar label in Switzerland only, the first solo album called BLUE is a well sought after jewel, especially to the worldwide fans of Marc.
1993
Marc joins the well-established Swiss band CHINA as featured singer for a fun collaboration and tour across Switzerland. A “live” broadcast is captured by Swiss radio, to be released 7 years later as a CD under the name of “MARC STORACE & CHINA”.
Towards the end of CHINA’s extensive tour and in the same year, Marc forms with the band’s two guitar players Claudio Matteo and Freddie Lawrence a semi-unplugged trio called ACOUSTICAL MOUNTAIN, bringing classics and rock’n’roll spirit mainly to Swiss Mountain resorts. What started out as an “Apres-Ski” entertainment will grow bigger and bigger over the years and the band keeps busy during off KROKUS times up to this day.
1994
Koch Records Switzerland releases AMEN, a brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Manfred Ehlert. As hired guns and collaborators for this album, Manfred recruits Marc Storace and Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple fame to share vocals for these funk influenced and soulfully executed rock songs, mixed with a light touch of classical music.
1995
In late 1994 Marc approaches his old KROKUS mate Fernando Von Arb and convinces him to reform the band in almost the original formation. A reunion tour re-introduced the band to their Swiss fan base, followed by the album release “To Rock Or Not To Be”, turning gold immediately after release. Due to the fact that the success in Switzerland could not be duplicated internationally (hard rock had not quiet yet returned full circle), the band called it quits once more.
This year also saw the re-birth of ACOUSTICAL MOUNTAIN, with bassist Brian Kofmehl replacing Freddie Lawrence in the line-up.
1996
The second AMEN album called “Aguilar” is released, this time however Marc is featured on all vocals with the exception of one song, sung again by Ex-Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes.
1998
Due to popular demand, the originally in 1991 released BLUE CD is re-released by Ariola Records in Switzerland, this time under the name VERGEAT – STORACE, Vic Vergeat of “Toad” fame being Marc’s guitar player and songwriting partner for this project.
2000
This is a very productive year for Marc.
Swiss record company Phonag releases MARC STORACE & CHINA’s live concert, originally recorded in May of 1993 as part of Swiss Radio’s concert series broadcast “Live Uf Dr Gass” under the name “Alive”.
Arista Records USA releases KROKUS’s second “Best Of” collection under the name “The Ultimate Collection”.
BMG-Ariola Records Switzerland release the CD DC WORLD, the ultimate tribute to late vocalist Bon Scott of AC/DC fame, coinciding with his 20th anniversary of passing on. On these series of medleys Marc sings the parts of Bon Scott.
2001
Luciano Pavarotti's duets with pop and rock singers plus the famous “Barcelona” duet performed by the late great Freddie Mercury with the Opera Diva Monserrat Caballé revamped a trend of cross collaboration between modern and classical singers. Hence, in 2001 Koch Records to no surprise to anyone, released the song “One World”, a hymn where rock meets classic, featuring Marc Storace ( for the first time ever in German and English ) and the Swiss Opera singer Raphael Haslinger. The project is called STORACE & HASLINGER. Multiple European TV shows featured the collaboration of two different musical worlds and a few live performances followed its release.
2002
On February 16th, 2002, Marc is to perform in the “Hallenstadion” (largest indoor stadium in Switzerland with KROKUS being the first Swiss band to sell it out) yet again, this time as “Special Guest” with his new friend Gölä, who 'sold out' two consecutive nights. The whole stadium joins in to sing to Marc's specially arranged sing-a-long during the rendition of KROKUS's “Bedside Radio”, supported by Gölä and his band. This performance is broadcasted “live” by Swiss TV and is available on DVD. After this emotional performance Marc yearns to rock “live” again, setting the stage to hook up with his old KROKUS mate Fernando Von Arb.
Reunited with Fernando, they dive into song writing, followed by recording. In between recording sessions the newly energized KROKUS line-up plays to enthusiastic crowds at some Swiss summer festivals.
In March of 2002, Marc takes part in a Saturday prime time Swiss TV Documentary, filmed on location in Thailand, called “Rondo Mondo”. Marc contributes a song called “Look At Me Now” that he wrote a year earlier for his wife Cornelia.
2003
In January of this year, KROKUS launch their self-produced album “Rock The Block”. For the first time in the band’s history, this album shoots straight to 1 in Switzerland. A tour across Europe follows and fans at “Swedenrock Festival” vote the band 1 as their favorite "live" act. This summer, the band also plays the prestigious “Montreux” festival for the first time. This show is filmed for a future release.
In August 2003, on invitation of American cult heavy rockers WARRIOR, Marc flies to Los Angeles as featured vocalist and co-writer of their new album.
2004
Twenty of the best tracks from the “live” recordings of many of the concerts from KROKUS's 2003 'Rock The Block' Tour were chosen and re-mixed in the band's Studio and a “Double Live” package called “Fire + Gasoline” is released by Warner Music in February 2004. A Bonus LIVE - DVD of the Band's 2003 Performance in Montreux comes as part of the package in Europe only.
In summer of 2004, KROKUS plays a few more Swiss concerts, after which Fernando underwent minor surgery on his left hand. Consequently, the band, of course, has to abandon all plans of returning to tour the USA this autumn, and so, KROKUS switches back to songwriting-mode.
In 2004 Reality Entertainment releases in the USA and Phonag in Switzerland the WARRIOR album entitled “The Wars Of Gods And Men”. This album is unique in that it portrays Marc for the first time experimenting within the darker-sounding side of his fathomless vocal realm, yet the message stays positive.
In November of 2004, Marc is contacted by German producer Michael Voss and asked to sing on the new BISS album. The demos of this German melodic rock band around virtuoso guitar player Doc Heyne sounded so full of great pumping riffs, nice melodies and positive chord energy, that Marc feels these songs are too good to be true.
2005
Released by AOR Heaven in May 2005, BISS launches the CD “Face-Off”, featuring the incomparable Marc Storace on vocals.
KROKUS long time guitarist Fernando informs the band that he will be leaving the band due to the fact that he does not want to slow down the success of KROKUS due to his wrist/hand. Marc invites Mandy Meyer, who had replaced the late Tommy Kiefer to finish touring in support of the band’s 1981 “Hardware” release already once. A week later, the band starts regular rehearsals, building up a strong momentum in time for the upcoming Swiss Tour starting June 2005.
In April 2005 Marc joins Steve Lee of Swiss rockers “Gotthard” and Swiss female singer Gigi Moto for the recordings of a Queen-Medley tailored for Swiss National Television. This is performed “live” on May 7th on the ever popular 'prime time' variety show 'Benissimo' and catches the curiosity of Queen's Brian May himself, who asks for a recording of this very well received performance.
On August 19th a dream comes true for Marc, as he joins Texan conductor John Axelrod and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra for another edition of “Rock Meets Classic”, mixing the "Hungarian Rhapsody" and Bach's "Toccata und Fugue in d-moll" with Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” and Beatles classics.
September 9th marks the start of a (for fans and Marc alike) long awaited comeback in the USA after 17 long years.
22 concerts in 30 days keep the band moving. Marc guests on huge talk shows like “The Eddie Trunk Show” and his longtime friend Alice Cooper’s “Nights With Alice Cooper”. KROKUS had covered in the late 80’s Alice’s hit “School’s Out” (the only KROKUS single to enter US “Singles Top-40” charts).
A very special event takes place in Denver the day before Marc's birthday, when his old friend of 33 years, Peter Waelti, who also managed TEA in the late 70's in Switzerland hangs out with the entire band for the first time since the late 80’s. Because of the altitude in Denver (one mile high – 1600 meters) and the thin air, KROKUS arrives a couple of days prior to the concert. Peter arranges for Marc to perform "live", accompanied by bassplayer Tony on acoustic guitar in order to promote their show in Denver on the "Lewis & Floorwax" Classic Rock Radio Show, which is broadcast in 42 States. This reunion has a very positive outcome in as much as the band asks Peter to employ his endless energy and hearty enthusiasm into setting up a long needed Fan-Club for KROKUS (www.krokusonline.com > GLOBE CLUB – and now also the band’s and my “mySpace” pages) and a year later offers to manage the band in the USA only.
Back in Switzerland, KROKUS receive an offer to write/record a rock song and act in a film called “Handyman”, starring Internationally known Swiss comedian Marco Rima. KROKUS on the Silver Screen at last !!! Marc's composition “Hellraiser” is chosen, produced by American Dennis Ward of “Pink Cream 69” fame. The film and soundtrack are released the following year, both making the top of the charts. The film features his first, even if short, acting debut on the Silver Screen.
In late November, the band embarks for the first time in KROKUS history to play a couple of gigs in Russia (Moscow & St.Petersburg). The band’s song “Russian Winter” comes to mind.
2006
Marc lends his powerful vocals to the band BROKEN DREAMS, singing “Broken Hearts” and “First Way Out” on their album “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”.
Marc again adds to his extensive resume “actor”, playing an Indian shaman, as the film ANUK is released along with a soundtrack CD, where DORO PESCH & MARC STORACE contribute the song “On My Own”.
End of September KROKUS release their new CD “Hellraiser”, produced by American Dennis Ward of Pink Cream 69 fame and promote the CD release in Germany with another “first”, an acoustic set at the famous “Rock Fabrik” in Ludwigsburg.
An incredible “milestone” for Marc is to return as frontman of a band to his native Malta. The last time he played Malta with his own band was with TEA 30 years ago. KROKUS spends an entire week on the island. Prior to the November 25th concert in Malta’s capital of Valletta, the band stays busy with interviews on various TV and Radio stations across the island including an extensive interview and acoustical set (can be seen and heard on our www.krokusonline.com web site on the GLOBE CLUB pages). Peter Waelti flys in from Denver to oversee filming of the concert (release date uncertain at this time) and personally carries out special “Globe Club” interview segments with each band member, making use of local scenic backgrounds (also to be seen on our krokusonline/Globe Club web site).
BISS release their follow-up CD to “Face-Off”, featuring for an encore performance our very own Marc Storace on vocals for the “X-tension” release.
2007
KROKUS play the famous “Alpenrock House” by the airport in Zurich, Switzerland, where chosen fans partake in the ceremonials by handing out “Gold Record Awards” for “Hellraiser” to the band members on stage under the moderation of Peter, who flew in from Denver for this special event. After all, without our fans we would not be where we are today!
In September Marc embarks on another project called THREE STYLE, Daniel Gasser’s orchestra of a unique mixture of brass and strings combined with a solid rhythm section and angelic backing vocals. The performances of the three vocalists, Marc Storace along with Andra Borlo and Eliot Chambers makes this an incredibly successful project. Marc sings magnificently “Angel Of My Dreams” and “Long Stick Goes Boom” with a repeat performance of “Angel” as final encore, with the other singers joining in.
Swiss TV launches a prime time music series called “Greatest Swiss Hits Of All Times”. Marc is approached to perform a medley with his band mates of the early 80’s (Fernando, Chris & Freddy) for one of the shows. After careful consideration Marc agrees to this “one time” event and without a rehearsal, the original KROKUS perform on November 18th a playback medley of “Tokyo Nights”, “Bedside Radio” and “Heatstrokes”. At the end of the performance the large studio audience gives the band a standing ovation. To the surprise of the musicians, KROKUS receive the “Diamond Award” for having sold 1 million albums in Switzerland alone, most of them obviously with the original line-up.
A week prior to the one-time KROKUS reunion TV Show, Marc performs with well known Swiss singer Natacha as part of the same TV series "Greatest Hits Of All Times" a duet of her hit "Banderas". The voices blend very well together, as Natacha sings in her Swiss native language and Marc in English with the chorus sung by both in English. It showcased once more the versatility of Marc's voice.
2008
Marc stands at a crossroad in his long and successful career and takes “inventory” whether to continue with the “Hellraiser” line-up or to join the reunion of the originals. Many facts have to be weighed out, too complex to mention and too personal to share. Ironically, Marc & the “Hellraiser” line-up play one of their best concerts ever. The last concert with this line-up is in Gozo/Malta on February 2nd. The day after the concert, Marc shares with the rest of the band his decision and his reasoning. The band splits amicably, wishing Marc the best for his future.
Marc guest-vocalizes on CALLAWAY’s “live” CD, which is recorded in concert February 15th and released under the title “Live at Key North”. Marc joins the band for classic renditions of AC/DC’s “TNT”, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” and “Since I’ve Been Loving You”. He also does a duet of Free’s “All Right Now” with Callaway singer Jean-Marc Viller. The band is lead by ex-TEA drummer Roli Eggli, who also serves as Marc’s Personal Manager.
Speculations build up in the Swiss media and abroad regarding the split and the possible return of the originals. Quietly, the comeback of the originals, being “the voice” Marc Storace, lead guitarist Fernando Von Arb, rhythm guitarist Mark “Koki” Kohler, bassist Chris Von Rohr and drummer Freddy Steady, is put in place. The band rehearses and announces just one concert in 2008!
On August 2nd, 2008, the reunited KROKUS headline the new “Stade De Suisse” football stadium in Bern, Switzerland and prove with hard pumping, uncompromising rock that the originals are not only back but here again in top form. The past is back to kick more ass!
2009
After last year's unforgettable sold-out stadium concert, KROKUS concentrate on writing and recording new songs for an upcoming CD. The band composes the anthem and title song for this year’s “2009 Ice Hockey World Championship” that will take place in Switzerland April 24th through May 10th. KROKUS’s new song “Live For The Action” will be heard all over Europe in hockey stadiums and at other occasions.
In between recording, the band welcomes an opportunity to headline the sold out "Magic Night" festival in Zofingen and to reconnect with fans.
On November 13th, 31 years after their last release, TEA introduces itself back again with a CD appropriately called "Reloaded", consisting of songs from the first three album releases plus the first single a & b sides, which never were released on an album up to now. The 6-page digipak included liner notes and rare photos.
December 1st, TEA deliver a showcase show at the Mascotte in Zurich and after 32 years, originals Marc Storace, Armand Volker (guitar) and Roli Eggli (drums) continue where the left of with the help of Chris Egger on keyboards and Dan Allenspach on bass.
2010
This year promises to be a "busy" one for Marc. February 26th the long anticipated new KROKUS cd "Hoodoo" is released. In Switzerland it earns “Gold Award” status the day of the release and within four weeks “Platinum”. In other European countries Krokus chart impressingly as well. For the “Hoodoo” release in the USA Marc conducts dozens of interviews across the Atlantic, including the prestigious “Eddie Trunk Show” and “Nights With Alice Cooper”. His heartfelt comments on the passing of fellow vocalist Ronnie James Dio are posted by many internet stations, broadcast by radio and can be seen on YouTube as well.
In June Marc plays a concert in his native Malta with TEA, the first band he internationally gained recognition with in the early to mid 70’s in support of the 2009 cd release “Reloaded”. At the same time he is honored with the “Palm Print” Award, the equivalent of the “Star” on Hollywood Boulevard and filmed a 60-minute music special about his life so far.
With Krokus he is headlining shows and festivals in support of the new cd, spreading “hoodoo magic” all over Europe.
2011
Middle of January Marc takes part in a project dear to his heart. Four concerts in Switzerland with other rock icons like Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, Ex-Foreigner's Lou Gramm, Barclay James Harvest's Les Holroyd and Nazareth's Dan McCafferty and accompanied by a symphony orchestra + band. It showcases a new dimension to some of the KROKUS hits. Marc receives a standing ovation from the concert audience at each venue, as he sings Gotthard's hit "Heaven" as homage and in honor to their singer Steve Lee, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident.
Starting April 25th and up to middle of December Marc will be the featured artist in 13 shows all across Switzerland under a circus tent. "Rock Circus" is a unique concept of a mixture between rock songs and circus acts.
During this year, Marc and his KROKUS fellow band mates Chris Von Rohr and Fernando Von Arb will work on new songs for the follow-up cd "Hoodoo" and record them later in the year.
