Sometimes just me, sometimes a big band, sometimes a quartet. Regulars are Dan Jones on guitar or bass (he thinks guitar is a man's instrument, bass less so) George Wilson on drums and Ed Wiles on piano, with Stephen Roberts on alto or Osian Roberts on tenor or Gareth Roberts on trombone. No relation, it's just that we are in South Wales.
Famous alumni: trumpet legend Andy Greenwood, drumming meister Mike Smith, trombone X factor star Al White and bassplayer and Blues man Andre Messeder have all been conned into joining forces with MG. Some even enjoyed it, after a fashion. In the world of worship music, Tim Hughes features on the "Every Breath" CD by the Marcus Green Big Band, singing the most unusual version of "Beautiful One" he's ever likely to record. The CD is available to download from iTunes, Napster and all sorts of other sites, and in solid form at all live gigs or www.CDBaby.com and www.Amazon.com in the US or you can order by post from www.st-caths.org/everybreath.asp .

Big Band singer and vicar, Marcus Green is also a half decent pianist and if only he'd had enough lessons would have been a talented arranger. His compositions show promise, and when played by people with genuine talent and jazz invention sound like real music. Mercifully he hasn't inflicted his trumpet and trombone playing on a paying public for many years, so we all have many reasons for gratitude.
His regular quartet gigs meet with authentic jazz success - that is, he'll never make any money from them. And his two one-off singing appearances with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra met with such indifference that it was several years before he found more regular work with Newport's finest Byron Jones Big Band. More recently, he has guested with the amazing National Big Band of Wales for their "Big Band Gospel" gigs.
And though no-one's claiming he's the best singer in the world, he's not bad for Pontypridd.
Mind you, you should hear him preach, cos this boy has a heart for Jesus that's worth a-hearing.
Away from the music, Marcus Green is also a published author with Survivor; his book "Salvation's Song" isn't going to top any New York Times best-sellers lists, but it has its place in popular theology, and gains him invitations to speak both in the UK and in the US, notably with Soul Survivor, Worship Central and Asbury Seminary. Second only to his love of his day job in Pontypridd, this work on worship and the Cross is his real passion.
His fifteen minutes of fame were extended somewhat by a typically competitive appearance on "The Weakest Link", where a mixture of charm, luck, prayer, knowledge and a cheap blue shirt from Tesco ensured him victory.
Hey Marcus. Thanks for adding me. I was so pleased to see a UK Big Band and vocalist doing Christian songs! I didn't think we had anything in the UK I am a big fan of Denver and the Mile High Orchestra in the US and have been working to try and get them over for a UK tour for sometime. Anyway - Blessings to you my friend!
thanks for being myspace friends!!! And let us encourage one another in trusting in God´s providence and kindness ...
"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God ... Live as children of light, for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth, and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them."
