A blend of R&B/Soul/Acoustic and 80's musical genres can be used to describe his sound. Marcus Dupree is crafting his own signature sound while displaying his heartfelt poetic lyrics to the world. His mission is to redefine what is considered to be great pop music, while staying true to his unique sound.
"Many people say this," Marcus begins. "But I grew up with everything playing in my household. My mother would play Bob Marley one minute then Donny Hathaway, then Kenny Rogers. It was crazy!" This eclectic musical rearing most likely explains Dupree's desire to bend genre. But some would question, why an African-American his age would just sing more mainstream R&B?
"I love mainstream R&B. But I think that we as Americans forget the complete impact of Black people in music. We created Rock & Roll and that made a huge influence in the creation of other genres. I could play it safe, but that would just be boring for me. I would like to challenge listeners much like I challenge myself as a artist."
Marcus Dupree began singing around the house as a young child. Singing whatever was on the radio to his family members, while writing his own songs in private.
"I always wanted to sing my own music. But the content was so dark and mature, even at a very young age. I was scared how people would react to it."
Obviously today, Marcus has shed himself from those past fears. He is here to make a great impact in today's music; not necessarily as a solo artist. "I don't have a strong desire to be a big star. I would love to work behind the scenes and write for other artists and do my music on the side. Whatever happens, happens."
